Browsing and Searching Improvements

Hey folks!

Just a heads up -- when you browse and search art, you can now select what criteria you'd like to sort it by.  Sortable criteria are: post date, title, total views, and number of favorites.

I had to update Drupal's views module to 3.0 alpha in order to make this happen, so if you run into any weird issues, please let me know.

Thanks!

Bart

Next donation goal: Rigged, textured 3D Barbarian model

Hey folks!  I've got another 3D model incoming.  The funding goal for this one is $110.
Here's what he says about it:
7366tris, texture [6 x 2k maps (diff, spec, ao, normal, paint, additional blood, +env)], rigged. Each part of model is separate object (to get the nude barbarian model, just delete armor etc. :) )

Sorry about all the downtime lately.

We're feeling some growing pains and we've got some database configuration issues that need to be addressed.  We're working on the problem, I promise. :)

OGA's next donation goal!

If you're reading this blog entry, there's a good chance you've noticed we've reached out current fundraising goal to purchase the two excellent 3D models I blogged about previously!  I'm currently waiting to receive a check pledged in the mail -- once that clears, I'll make the purchase and post the models on the site.

Don't like Paypal? Try donating Bitcoins!

I'll be honest here -- OGA accepts Paypal because it's relatively cheap and a lot of people use it.  We withdraw our Paypal money every month so as to prevent massive losses if they happen to arbitrarily decide to freeze our account, as they have been known to do in the past.  It's one of those annoying practical decisions that you have to make when you run a community website -- risk dealing with Paypal, or lose out on a lot of donation money.  As things stand, OGA will continue to accept money by Paypal until few enough people use it that it makes sense to stop.

Brief OGA 2.0 Status Update

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up about the status of OGA 2.0.  Drupal 7 and its modules have come a long way in the last several months, and it's at the point where I can set it up and play around with it without it barfing all over the place.  That being said, there's still one crucial module with an outstanding bug that's preventing me from getting a serious start on the OGA 2.0 codebase.  Once that's fixed, I'll start working on the alpha version.

Need donations for a 3D character commission

Greetings!

I was recently contacted by a 3D artist who would like to sell the community the models in the attached picture for a total of $220 ($130 for the executioner and $90 for the lizardman).  I have the .blend files in my possession for previewing purposes, and I can verify that both of these models are rigged and ready to go.  Also, given what I know about 3D art, I would normally expect to pay a good deal more for models of this quality.

Here comes a new challenger!

Just a quick heads up, guys.  Lamoot has risen to the top of the submissions list for the last 30 days, with 65 submissions at the time of this blog post, and is leaving the rest of us in the dust.  Can anyone overtake him, or are we all going to be completely pwned for the next 4 weeks?  Better get started if we're gonna catch him. :)

Bart

P.S.  Keep it up, Lamoot!  Not trying to stop you, just trying to take advantage of peoples' competitive urges and whip them all into an art submitting frenzy.  Whoops, did I say that out loud?  :)

More HTML5 awesomeness :)

Those of you who follow my blog posts (yes, both of you) are probably aware by now that I'm a big fan of HTML5 and all the awesome potential that it has for the web (like, say, superseding Adobe Flash).  Today, I'd like to direct your attention to Gaurav's WIP old-school RPG, which uses a lot of art resources from right here on OGA.  It's still an early demo at this point, but there's a lot of potential there, so it's work checking out.  This is definitely a project to follow. :)
