This is the third commission that I'm putting up.
You can find my first commission here: http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/finshed-flare-tileset-compatible-bridg...
And the second commission here: http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/finished-texturing-a-3d-model-from-oga...
The job:
The commission is a bit different this time. The first part (this commission) is to generate some pieces of concept art, from which one will be chosen from and put (hopefully) into a 3D model in the next commission (if my finances allow it). The goal of this commission is to research and design "science fiction doors". I would like to have 5 pieces of concept art of 5 different doors, to be used in a Sci-Fi setting.
The doors should in design (how they look like and how they open) be sufficiently different from each other. The doors could be for different situations (e.g. for people to pass to another room, a hangar door of a space station or a door of some alien space ship). For the concept art I require some level of detail, because it has to be turned into a model. This includes size references (compared to an adult human and/or size indications in meters), at least one colour scheme and arrows that indicate how it opens. If the door does something special, also make that clear. The concept art should not be a collection of vague outlines or sketches, I want some detail in it.
The final work should be made available in png image format, supplying other files that were used (e.g. vector images) would also be nice (for people to make mock ups), but is not required. Work should be uploaded to OGA and the license should be at least CC-BY-SA 3.0.
Here is a link with some references of the idea: https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=sci-fi+door&hl=nl&gbv=1&prmd=imvns...
Payment:
I'm offering 20 euro (currently about USD 25) per finished piece of concept art (so 100 euro in total) and payment will be through Euro bank transfer (SEPA) or in Bitcoin if the bank transfer is not a possible option (euros will be converted to bitcoin and directly send to you, so you can convert them back to your own currency). Payment will only be done when above requirements are met and I'm happy with the result. Please note that PayPal is NOT a payment option! Only, the two methods mentioned above.
Accepting offer:
When you want to work on this, post in this topic and I will mark it filled. You will get the first chance to work on this for some reasonable time. If things aren't clear, feel free to ask questions.
I'm a decent concept artist (although interior design has never been my strong point), and I have some experience creating 3D models from my concepts (using Maya or Zbrush). I've uploaded an example of my concept work and its 3D counterpart. Btw, what are the time constraints?

Hey Leonard,
I've marked it filled for you to work on this. There is no time constraint, although a weekly update on your progress would be nice (like was done in the previous commissions). If you can give an indication how long it would take for you, then that would also be great.
The fact that interior design is not your strong point, should IMHO not matter that much (but, feel free to use this as a practise). Although you could place the doors in interiors, that is optional and up to you. The main focus should be on the doors themselves.
Creating 3D models is not part of this commission, but it is good that you also have some experience with that (might help you in creating the concept art).
Good luck.
Thanks, I should be able to complete them in about two weeks and I will try to keep you up to date to the best of my ability.
Ok, an update every 2 or 3 days would be fine then. Even if you haven't made any progression in that time.
I'm new to open comission boards. Is [filled] meant as "don't enter" or as "you can enter but be warned that you're not the only one working"?

Should be in the lines of 4a. There are no rules on how to call it, as far as I know. I'm no native English speaker, so if you have a better word, please suggest it.
I'm currently messing around with an idea, when I get to a concept I like I'll expand upon it and make it more technically accurate.

Looks promising. I guess the 2nd and 3rd are more or less the same, right?
Nothing to really update upon, I have almost all of the upcoming week off to work upon it.
"Looks promising. I guess the 2nd and 3rd are more or less the same, right?"
Yes, I was basically playing around with it.
Ok, thanks for keeping me updated.
Not too sure about where this one is heading (the idea is that it's a sewer access door), or even if the quality so far is good enough...

I think for the art-side the quality is good enough, needs just a bit more detail (sizes). Not really sure what happens with the round part of the right side of the door (darker shaded section of the lock). Does it slide into the left part? The "button" in the middle, is it pushed in? Or is it just the (stationary) center of the lock and the door would open with a panel.
Sadly this is going to take me longer than I had initially thought it would, as such I will continue to work on them for free.
I'm going to revise how the locking mechanism separates, the center is stationary opening with the use of a nearby panel (although having the central piece be a button is an interesting idea).

Do note that there is no hard deadline, so please take your time to work on it. I'm happy with the progress so far.
I'm really sorry It seems I've wasted a lot of time working on a living door concept that always ends up looking like genitals... (yes I do realize that it is mirrored)

Although I like the concept of "biological doors", I think it is better not to go in that direction (unless you have a good idea that will work in one go).
Please finish up the door that you were working on earlier (I think you're almost finished with that one), so that I can pay for it and you can upload it. I send you an email some weeks ago, did you receive it?
I realize my draftmanship is a little rough, but how's this?
I did receive your email apparently it got buried under a lot of spam (I'm probably going to use Bitcoin once I learn more about it).

That looks ok, if you just add a "shadow" of an adult human standing in the lower right white space as size reference I think it is perfect and completely what I had in mind.
Added the silhouette

Great, send you a mail.
First payment has been completed and the art is uploaded:

I apologize for my hiatus, I'm working on the next one now.
Ok, just post when you have something.
I apologies once again for my extreme laziness as of late, but I've made some progress upon my earlier design.

No problem, take your time. Design looks good, the upper red triangles are windows?
I'm considering to close this commission due to the lack of progression (and I want to move on with other things). Leonard, do you agree with me, or are you able to provide something complete within 2 weeks.
