Huge amount of Fallout-style post apocalyptic game art for sale

Apparently, an artist and programmer collaborated on making an MMORPG set in a Fallout-style world. The relationship unfortunatley broke apart, but not before they'd been working for four years on the game and created a huge set of graphic assets that include character, portraits, environments, creatures, mutants, battle animation, weapons... Heck, just check out the game site itself: http://crimeagame.com/ there's no reason to believe that every piece of art displayed on that site isn't available. The forum link I posted above also contains links to other pieces of art.
So now that the project is sadly dead, the artist is looking to sell the art assets. Obviously, a commercial company or indie devleoper might see value and buy it, but I thought OGA should know in case people here want to raise a fund drive or something to buy the art. This is good quality stuff that's been used in game demos, this sorta stuff doesn't come up often.

I think parg died awhile ago, they posted all their art here, that being said this 2d art is great, i would believe its from the original fallout and even better. How much would he want from it?
Don't know how much he wants so just posted a message asking for more info. I'd imagine he's willing to negotiate but I don't know what his starting point is. (The price could be thousands and still be undervalued in my opinion)

Given that I doubt he wants his email address published, I'll only be able to relay messages or send the address onto specific people who are curious.
I've sent him an email asking for a general idea of the price. In the meantime, if anyone's intersted, post in this thread so we can see how much interest there is.
Out of curiosity, how much interest is in OGA making a funding drive to buy these assets? I don't hang out at this site enough to get an idea of the community, but I assume there's interest in this.
I'm interessted in at least knowing the price for these assets.
I can see plenty use for them.
Okay, I got a reply. The price he gave me was $9,000. Personally, I think he at least deserves $10,000 given how much effort he put into this, but just my opinion.
So, think it's possiible to raise this amount of money? Is there someone trusted who could organise a drive?
I vote Bart or gubodup!
Edit: I think it would be neat if the community had some sort of shared bank account for OGA, with which the community (Bart, after a poll) could buy stuff like this. (I am not sure how this will work, it's just a wild idea)
Edit2: Of course, the community could only donate to the account, nothing else.

I think we may need more than just oga to raise this amount of money.
But it would be really awesome to see a FLARE or FIFE game with this artwork.

Okay guys, apparently a Russian Studio is proposing to take the assets from the artist in return for 10% of future profits. The guy hasn't agreed yet, but unless we get back to him with a proposal it's possible he'll accept the Russian offer.
Basto: In terms of file formats, I got a reply "I made most of the game objects in 3DS MAX, but some of them (trees, stones, ground) were made in VUE. Final renders were made in VUE editor. Some of inventory items (5% or so) were made directly in Photoshop. Characters, NPC and monsters were made in Poser + textures in Photoshop."
Hm, Poser. Are his human figures based on the Daz3D default people (are they still called Michael and Victoria?). If so, that may reduce the usefulness of those assets for OpenGameArt.
Similar issue with all the textures, if they're sourced from places like cgtextures then the assets are near useless to OGA.
Someone pinged me and asked me to chime in on this, so here's my honest opinion.
The Liberated Pixel Cup raised just over $10k, and it had the support of the Creative Commons and the Free Software Foundation, along with a lot of good press. Consequently, I don't think it's realistic to raise $9000 for this, and it's not something I really want to spearhead (plus, when you only get a fraction of what you wanted to raise, things get complicated).
If someone else decides to take charge of raising the money, I'd be happy to link to it on the OGA blog.

I was aware from the start that OGA mightn't be able to buy the assets (though I thought it would be cool if they could), but the important thing was that it was seriously considered.
A lot of times in life, and in online communities, opportunities can drift by because no one takes action. I wanted at least a clear decision to be made, one way or the other, on whether to pursue this.
It seems that the decision is "no", which is fine. I guess the matter can be laid to rest and we can hope that the artist gets a good deal for his work that he's truely happy with.

Does he want to sell the assets ASAP? Raising money takes time.
A kickstarter campaign might be an idea (for him or the fund raising effort) and it could be interesting to see how much interest an open source project could gather as a kickstarter campaign. I guess you'd be looking for more than the funds to buy the assets though - as you'd want at least a bit of money to pay a motivated programmer to get the game engine off the floor.
