Collect or remix?
Collect or remix?
Hello, everyone.
I've just officially announced the enhanced edition of my old game Square Shooter, which uses a bunch of sound FX from OGA. And I have gathered them into a collection, but that's a bit misleading, as I only use 12 of Kenney's 63 digital sound effects. There's also the fact that I converted many .wav and MP3 files to .ogg so I could hear them in Firefox. Things will get even more hairy once graphics go in, as all the sprites will be cherry-picked from larger packs.
Hence my question: should I also remix the sounds I used into a stand-alone pack? (With proper attribution, naturally). Or is the collection sufficient? Or perhaps remixing is the way to go and a collection is the wrong thing to use here?
Thank you. (And thanks to all the artists involved, by the way.)
Hi, it's great that you ask for clarification on licenses.
To me, the question is not clear. Could you include what you are trying to do and why (the license requirement, as per your interpretation)?
So far I'm under the impression that you think there is a need to give attribution or share what you use on OpenGameArt? You should give attribution in the game credits. You can first list the art submission and then the specific filename of what you used for example.
Hope this helps!
I do give attribution in the game credits. But I was thinking to also repackage just those assets I used and upload them as such back on Open Game Art, in which case the new pack would be a derived work. My question was whether it would be useful.
But in the mean time I realized that if people want to see exactly what sounds I used and how, they can just download the game (well, once I make an archive available). So here on OGA a collection is enough.
