i want to convert something from me (http://opengameart.org/content/details-for-metal-texture-creation-sets)
into gimp-brushes and i have a problem there. i have a loss of quality and they are smaller too.
what can i do?

well the only brush I created was a brush which allows drawing a leopard pattern.
The thing with brushes you should bear in mind is that a brush should exceed 512px or else there will be a loss of performance (at least on my machine).

Just a little advice, although I am not a real specialist in Gimp you might want to indicate operating system as well as you Gimp version. This way people may help you more as each version brings new features and bugs etc.
