It might be easier this way, as it's a bit difficult for me (I'm dumb I guess) to understand who made exactly what in these tile atlas'.

If anyone who was a contributor reading this please keep reading if you wouldn't mind.
I'm part of a project on a server for an online rpg, which I and my brother pay to keep up and develop on. We don't get paid for our work (scripting, images, etc) and probably never will. We just wanted to make something on here, but the thing is under the licenses for these Tile Atlas' it seems, according to this site, that all source code must be released with the server, which is impossible as I have no access to and cannot release the source code for the engine.
I was hoping to list all the names on our prompt when getting on the server, as well as links to the original graphics for the work being credited, and being able to use the stuff from these tileset atlas'. If you were a contributor please let me know.
I'm not quite understanding the text file if someone wouldn't mind explaining it to me as well (see the bold. in no way am I saying these people didn't make anything, I just don't seem to notice exactly what it was. Also it seems there is a lot more than what is listed on here, like sand tiles. Who made these?):

Thanks for you're time anyone. :) Sorry for such a long post, but I do not want to steal. We had started to put together a tileset and make a few maps, until I read a little more on this site in the FAQ saying we e to release ALL content of the project (which again is impossible). I read the licenses at little for the CC BY-SA and GPL 3 and it seems it is just referring to the exact assets you are using and not the entire project, e.g. the graphics from here, where original links and names must be supplied (correct me if I'm wrong). Either way, I need to know exactly who to credit for certain things if permission is given to use these tiles off the atlas.
For what it's worth, I just figured I'd search each person and it's working out so far. But also if anyone on here wouldn't mind just replying in this thread that'd be cool too. :)
Thank you!
Hello gkjr1,
Thanks for your effort to provide proper attribution. I haven't looked at the tile atlass so I won't comment further on how to do attribution there.
You made a comment though on needing to release the source to the server; I am always for this. Just for clarity, since the artwork is released under CC BY-SA 3.0 and GPLv3+, common perception unless you have some complex intertwining of assets and content, assetss and code are generally considered separate layers, licensing-wise. The "release all content" bit on the site was also related to the rules of the contest, not relatedto the rules of license compliance.
Where is this game, by the way? I'm curious!

It's older (I've actually been off and on this for ~ 15 years lol). Me and my bro just finally decided that we wanted to actually finish the server. :)
Good to hear about the licensing. Being that all images are auto-downloaded to the client folder as they are loaded when seen on gamplay, outside of giving credit on the image and in reference on our rules page, ideally there should be no problems correct? A link will be given to the atlas tileset in the, basically, terms section (rules) for the server as well. I sent out emails regardless, but suppose I will go on the "give credit where due" unless otherwise noted. That should do correct? I just want to make sure, I'd hate if someone just used my work w/o approval on something like this, at least because I'm misunderstanding the license.
Hi gkjr1,
You're a creator of Graal, of one of the player worlds? Not that it matters, just curious. As to who made the assets, they were all done by members on this website, so finding them should hopefully be easy enough. You can find most of the art posted by the original artists on here:
http://opengameart.org/lpc-art-entries
This website address will bring you to LPC entries (Liberated Pixel Cup). It should help you find who made what assets. As far as licensing goes, all LPC assets are licensed under CC-BY-SA or GPL or a less restrictive license. You may have to do some searching around the site in order to get exact answers.. but the main contributors are still pretty active here on the site.
Welcome to OGA though! You should take a poke around, there should be a lot more art assets on here you may want to use.
One of the player worlds. And thanks for the heads up! I'm waiting on one other person to personally contact me, but from the looks of it and the responses, and reading the licesnses, it seems I'm good with giving credit where due.
Aha! Amusing to hear that LPC is being used with Graal.
Main issue might be that proper copyleft compliance means that mixing LPC stuff with the main Graal artwork is probably not possible since the other artwork is proprietary. It would be interesting to know if LPC could be a complete-replacement for Graal artwork though, which certainly would be possible.

Well so far what we're using we have CC-BY license permissions (which from reading seems it only requires to give credit to the original author, unless I'm missing something), except one I'm waiting on. It's just sand, so if we get no reply It'll be replaced. Proper names will be attached to the tileset and in the server terms upon login.
There were a few we were hoping to use to save some time, but the base stuff is taken care of safely, again, besides the sand. :)
I don't know how the licensing works out, but you may be interested to know that I've written some lpc compatible .gani files. These gani files are intended for use with a javascript gani parser and animator that I wrote last week for fun. You can see the demo live here: http://pirateradiotheater.org/files/m.grl/demos/03_animations/ and you can pick the files out of the github repository here: https://github.com/Aeva/m.grl
I have no idea if the .gani files I wrote will actually work with modern graal - the parser was written after studying some old .gani files I found on a CD in my parent's basement over chirstmas - the version of graal was 2.05. Likewise, I have no idea if modern .gani files will work with my parser (and even if they could, I wouldn't personally recommend using them outside of graal).
Anyways, my gani files are written by hand - you don't need to attribute me (I'd prefer you didn't, actually, if you use them on a graal server). They're non-derivative works, and I released them as CC-BY-SA & GPL3, though its not clear from the git repository. However, the assets I re-formatted that you can find on there are CC-BY-SA / GPL3, and therefor must be attributed correctly.
I am curious to know if they work still :) - you will need to change the following line in all the files to make it graal compatible (circa 2001):
DEFAULTHAIR hair_messy.png
to
DEFAULTATTR1 hair_messy.png
[edit for afterthought]
My lpc version of idle.gani has another line that you may consider changing: from
WAIT 50 RANDOM 20 100
to
WAIT 20
I haven't made gani files for all of the animations in present in the body style sheet, though it would be pretty simple to do so, especially if you used graalshop instead of writing them by hand like I did :) If you're interested in using them, then I'll complete the set. Otherwise, I'm going to focus my attention on cutting up the basic body sprites and splitting it into torso / arms / legs sheets for better flexibility than the current character sprite set provides.
[edit2]
Corrected which license I released the .gani files under - CC-BY-SA & GPL3, not CC0... though I should change the .gani files to CC0 because I don't actually care where or how they get used, and I don't necessarily want to be attributed for them. I need to go to bed :) Sorry if the above is incoherent.
