I would like a tileset for a game like Grand Theft Auto 1. I have searched the art database here at OGA and I couldn't find what I was looking for. If someone could help me by either finding me a start to what I'm wanting or make it custom for me I would appreciate it.
The tileset must be able to be used to create a city, needs car images, player and other npc's, guns etc. If you are making them custom you will get a recognition and if it becomes a commercial adventure of mine you will get a pecentage of the earnings.

BOFH is BSD-licensed and contains a modern tileset that features office building stuff and weapons and characters similar to the gta1 style, but no roads or vehicles. It could be a start.
You would have to figure out how to convert the tileset to png or similar though.
I figured out how to get the graphics from BOFH and uploaded them:
http://opengameart.org/content/low-pixel-school-tileset-and-objects-etc-... is the tileset and http://opengameart.org/category/art-tags/bofh is all of them except for the logo/main screen
Hope this helps and you should tell us about your project and where it is located, if it's open source! :)
I actually have no clue where I am going to place this project of mine. If you have any ideas of where I should put this please tell me. http://code.google.com/p/secretorganisation/. This is where the project is going to be found. Basically this is a start. I will upload the code I have quite soon just when I have something.
The tileset is a great start to my project and thank you very much.
I am currently making the walking around / shooting engine for the game. I am programming the game in an open source programming language called Basic4GL (google search to find out more). The game is going to be of a mission style sort of game. I will try and have a demo out for you guys as soon as possible

Your request gave me the idea to make this week's Weekly Challenge theme "Modern City".
http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/weekly-challenge-modern-city-due-sept-6th
Question, are you doing that overhead 3D perspective that GTA 1 and 2 did? As in, do you need a city tileset that is modular parts for 3D buildings
Well I'm glad I could help you on choosing the weekly challange topic. Well I might learn how to do pixel art and I might submit a piece by the end of week (hopefully).
P.S. I never knew I would help someone out by a thread.
@wrayn3: My recommendation - if you are more interested in making a game than programming everything from ground up - would be to take BOFH and use its level editor to create some levels.
I was actually planning on making everything from the ground up. However making a game using an already created engine is also good. However I do not like BOFH that much. I will see what I do. I do use a programming language called Basic4GL and I do have some knowledge in C++ and SDL. I don't like the setup code that is needed for SDL and C++ and I like Basic4GL as everything is set up and ready to program with graphics straight away. But the problem is when I go to college in 2 years time I will be using C++ then.
I could modify BOFH to be used in my game (if it is allowed within BOFH's license). If there is a better RPG style engine thats open source I will be happy to use it instead.

@wrayn3: BOFH's license is the 3-clause BSD license, which is very permissive and allows what you suggested! :) I don't know a more fitting exisiting open source game engine.
