Yes, a fast update this time! The latest update includes automatically saved games, respawning after death, gold, leveling up, and a new map!
Note that bows and spells don't work yet, those are coming in the next release (v0.10). So you might want to upgrade Physical and Defense when leveling up!
Hi pfunked,
Version v0.08 runs on my pc system, but v0.09 doesn´t work and ends on a crash with bluescreen.
My system: Windows Vista Home Basic, Intel Celeron, Intel Graphic card, 2gb RAM.
I hope this information helps you maybe.
Version 0.08 looks very great!
Anonymous,
I've heard reports of issues on Vista and I don't know what causes it. So far the issue is Vista specific; I've never had nor heard issues on XP or 7.
I am using MinGW to compile. I might get a more vista-firendly version if I could compile using (a specific version of) MSVC but I don't have access to it. Anyone out there know what might be causing Vista issues on SDL? A quick bit of searching shows that Vista and SDL issues are common.

I'm having a similar issue on Mac OS X 10.6. As soon as I launch 0.09, the application crashes.
Here's the crashlog: http://pastebin.com/ycu8e8K8
I found the osx error (a missing image). Trying to upload osx v0.09b.
I think the Vista issue is different, but I'll go back and test the download on my WinXP to make sure it's not a missing file issue.
OSX version fixed (tested it on another OSX machine).

pfunked, you know about the express (free as in beer) versions of MSVC?
Pompei2, no I wasn't aware of it. It's something I might look into once I put out a long-term release.
Well, if I were you, I'd rather not touch it :) I just mentioned them because you talked about MSVC. But (at least with the experiences I had), executables made with mingw are often way smaller than the ones that MSVC makes, they are bloated and dependent on a lot of MS features you don't really need.
Absolutely no idea if it may solve the vista issue or not.
Hi, Nice update, quick! but.. The leveling seems a bit too grindy, too many mobs to kill to level up (lvl 4 -> 5 ain't fun)
Isn't it possible to just run it in compatibility mode on vista? I don't know, I just run the windows executables in Wine, they ran fine. And maybe, the loot balance is wrong, you get too many weapons, and too few potions. The only way to pass the game on a speed that's normal, is by litterally fighting yourself death, and retrying the same area again. But overall, great progress.
Anon,
Thanks for the feedback! Some of this grindiness will go away as more features get implemented.
Of course, if something happens and I can't create an enormous game world eventually, I'll just flatten the leveling curve or make random dungeons.

Compatability mode on vista sounds like something worth trying. Anyone running Vista, please try that and get back to me. Apologies again for the Vista BSODs!
I think the Vista issue (at least one issue) is that running the .exe from Windows Explorer does not automatically set that folder as the working directory.
I've added Launcher .bat files that should help. If you are running Vista please try version 0.09b and let me know if those launchers work.
Thanks!
I've had no problem running the game on Vista Ultimate. Keep up the good work!
