I've been browsing the site... but having a hard time finding basic character sprites with a shooting animation going horizontally. Pretty much anything would do, but to fit the theme it would be more of a sci-fi themed robot or "megaman"ish (think battlesuit/armor) design for the player sprite. And pretty much anything goes for enemies.
NOTE: They only need to be facing horizontally (player to the right, baddies left). This is more of a sideview like the LPC characters.
I want to stay away from pixel art in general, but it would be fine for this stage. I'm not looking for custom work so much as help finding what I need on this site.
Reason for request:
I'm working on a 2d PDL game (not for jam though). Im currently tying to get a nice vertical slice of the game done. That is: Small snippet of core gameplay and functionslity heavily polished/nice. I want to iterate on that until it looks good and is fun all by itself before expanding into the actual full game.
The Abuse art set is from a side-scrolling shooter. It may have some decent placeholders.

That set has the lower body and upper body separate because you can aim any direction as you move. If you don't need that feature you could just use the "aim forward" top with the leg animations.
I just uploaded a megaman-style sprite here:

Although it doesn't have an actual shooting animation, just a gun that points forwards + muzzle flash + bullet, but it might be useful. :)
I have exactly the thing for you.

He's not up in the gallery yet because I still haven't finished and polished him yet, but he's fully functional for basic platformer stuff (see http://static.opengameart.org/jsplatformer/game.html)
(Not to say that Master's wouldn't be a good option as well--I suggest Xeon in particular because that sprite is modelled somewhat after Megaman X1-3's aesthetics).
thanks for the links guys!
Variety is good, I now have a couple completely different looking enemies setup too.
