The forum sections are really disorganized in my opinion; I have a few suggestions:
* Create an "Archived" section for things that haven't been used in years
* "Weekly Challenges" is dead, archive it.
* "Procedural Death Jam" is for an old jam from years ago; it's a dead forum and shouldn't be so visible (It's the second forum, right below General Discussion). There's also a dead link in the description for it.
* There is a link to "FreeGameDev Forums" at the bottom that leads to an empty forum page, and it has an empty header with "Forums Topics Post Last Post" as well. There's a link to a new forum so presumably it used to be here but moved. This could be better handled with some kind of redirect (mod_rewrite or whatever) and remove it from the forums page.
* "Programming" and "Writers Forum" should go under "Design".
* "Resource Requests" and "Open Commissions" should go under "Art Forums".
* Fix the issues where "last post" says n/a and where views is 0. These are important tools to gague interest and activity.
I'm sure there's some differing opinions on what goes where but mostly I just wanted to point out that it could use some cleanup.
The Procedural Death Jam is dear to me as happened a few weeks after I'd found the site, was the motivator that really got me to properly hunt through the site and discover what a treasure trove of art the site really is.
Ever since, this has become one of my staple must visit sites each day.
But, alas, I must agree with you - the old competitions should be archived - heck, all competitions should be in their own sub section.
Just want to say I agree with all SpiderDave's suggestions and foz's suggestion to put all competitions in their own sub section.
