Hi all!
Can anybody point me to free VST Instruments, or a easy-compatible instrument set (that do not require a lot of additional mastering to fit together). Mainly as wide as MIDI, as a regular WH synth would have.
I need natural instruments (but I have actually a lot of those already as stand-alone) & electronic instruments (e.g. I could never find any kind of a good electronic piano like simple midi-Epiano1, KORG HW Synth Class.Tinies & Vintage EP, good synth brass, strings, etc.).
Best if designed for games.
Maybe, someone knows a nice FOSS old-style general midi VSTi syntheiser? Like GS Wavetable Synth, Roland GS or Yamaha XG. That is appliccable to real-time playing with midi keyboard (i.e. low latency) and allows for producing free music :)
Hi there.
You might want to take a look at http://mda.smartelectronix.com. Many free VST's.
Good luck!
Try this. I'm not sure it's got what you need, though:

Thanks a lot, everybody!
Aeitia, thank you for the link. Looks like Nostalgija VST is the stuff I was looking for... I hope it would work for me :)
Honestly, Dexed : http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?plugin=Dexed&id=2026
is a better alternative to Nostalgija in my opinion :). And it's free as well.
For all-in-one solutions there are also high quality free soundfonts available. The soundfont VSTs I know of have some bugs, though. I triggered the spam filter when I tried to link to these, so you'll have to google them :)
Sforzando soundfont player (sometimes borks when converting sf2 files)
DSK SF2 (can bug out when opening new files)
"Orchestral soundfonts free" in google brings up a link to a newgrounds forum topic with 3.5Gb of soundfonts.
Two GM soundfonts I like are "32MbGM" and "GeneralUserGS".
This will probably sound a lot like spam, but I swear I'm not affiliated with this company at all.
While it's not free, EastWest offers a pretty awesome monthly subscription package called Composer Cloud which includes all of their virtual instruments for $30/month. If you have a .edu email account, you can alternatively get their student package which includes just 7 instrument packs for $15/month. Both subscriptions are month-by-month.
I have played around a lot with different free instrument packs like SSO, GeneralUser, DSK, and Arachno, but frankly the quality you get with these paid ones may be worth it, depending on the kind of music you are trying to create. The biggest thing for me has been having different articulations, so (for instance) flutes can be played with a harder staccato hit, or a softer/airier tone, or an overloaded trill at the start of the note.
So it's not free, but is not too expensive and may be worth it depending on what kind of music you are making.
