Hello dear Pixel-Art Fellows,
i did read the Log from Yesterday, where someone wanted to know, what Pixel-Art Programs are available. Well, i'm creating Pixel-Art mainly, so i know a few good one's.
You can use this Programs, instead of using overpowered Programs as Photoshop or the like:
GrafX2 (Open Source - available for many OS'es) -> http://code.google.com/p/grafx2/
Graphics Gale (Windows - one Version is Freeware) -> http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/
Deluxe Paint and Deluxe Paint Anim (DOS only; you'll need Dosbox or an other DOS Environment to run it) -> http://www.phatcode.net/downloads.php?id=201
Kolourpaint (Linux) or MS Paint (Windows) -> Yes, you can use them; they are Okay for the Beginning, but i can't recommend using them for "bigger" Project's or Animations etc. (Hint: the Windows 7 Paint isn't very good - better not use it)

If you know more Pixel-Art Programs, please add them here in a new Posting, Thanks.
Greetings,
Ingo
Thanks a lot :D .
Edit: After testing, grafX2 is really nice! And I found it on ubuntu software center, now there's no excuses :P
Hey hey :) You are welcome.
Yes, GrafX2 is available in the Repositories of some Linux Distributions, like Ubuntu and Debian.
Btw.: If you need some Help with some of the Tools in GrafX2, let me know, and i'll write a "Getting Started Tutorial" for you. I created one in german a few Years ago and it's not that hard to translate it and add new Informations to it.
If you want to create a transparent Background on an Image, that you created with GrafX2, you'll have to use e. g. theGIMP or Kolourpaint, as far as i know. If you want to create Animations (e. g. animated GIF files), you'll have to use GIMP too, to create the Animation out of the individual Images (Frames) , that you either created with GrafX2 or Deluxe Paint Anim.
If you want to try Deluxe Paint (Anim), you can use DOSBox, which should be available in the Repositories of Ubuntu (e. g. in the Software Center) .
Pixel-Greetings,
Ingo :)
Does anybody know a program with automatic tilling other then pixothello(since its unworkable on 32x or more and crashes allot)?
Not necessarly pixel art only, just something with tilling
Yes, theGIMP (or simply called Gimp) does this for you. There is one option for this in the Filters-Section.
E. g. found this Tutorials:

Hi, you can set transparent background in Grafx2, it's in the Lsmall menu when you click layer button.

You can add Pixen to the list. It was mostly abandoned a few years ago, but someone else has picked the project up and has been working on it fervently since then. I reported a nasty bug and it was fixed by the end of the day. He even emailed me the new build when he was done. My excitement over this software's revival is huge! Check it out if you're running OS X: https://github.com/philippec/Pixen
