Thank you very much! Using in Stendhal:

Edit: Reworked into a robot version.
Thank you for using my sprites. Be sure to use credit, would be nice to have! :D Also, you may want the SFX that goes with these guys. Gives them more effect. I have checked out your game and it is quite nice. Hope to see those guys in action, maybe a video or screenshot? :D
Thanks again! Link to SFX: Click Here!
Of course I give you credit ;). And I will definitely add those SFX. Thank you!
One question. Would you please give me permission to license the sprites in my rework under CC BY and OGA BY? I understand if you don't want me to. But wanted to give it a shot & ask either way.
Well, these characters do have a sentimental meaning to me... and I am planning on using them again... which may mean I will possibly remove them from here or change the license. However, I put them out for people to rework into their games more as templates -- and since you did just that and reworked them over (not just only using the default) I don't see why not, I would like you to know that these characters may be licenced into an actual game of our own. So using the original may conflict with our future game in development, unless you work our games lore into your own of course! :) :) I was actually about to remove these assets from this site, so your timing is very good. You have put so much effort and work into it, that I will allow you to use them as you may, but with full credit. Also, if you can (or will) apply the lore of our game from which the Minimare comes from, that would be cool. This will have to be a rule if you use the original, but if you dont use the original, then its up to you if you wanna give a shout out to us or have it as an easter egg.
I think I was rambling quite a bit there, not sure if that made any sense at all!! lol lol :p
I am also willing to lend a hand in your game development if wish. I would love to help where it can be applied! :)
Ah, okay. I'm going to leave the license just CC BY.
It would be difficult for me to meet your requests. Our project is currently doing a major overhaul with art assets. There was a bunch of non-free art that should have never been added to it. So now we are scrambling to replace all of them to avoid proprietary licensing infringment. I used your minimare to replace the sprite for a creature named dark aruthon, & I reworked the robot version to replace robot aruthon. I'm sure the head devs won't want me changing the lore.
So, I'm trying to think of a way to make this work.
I suppose one option would be to rework the original more for the dark aruthon creature.
I'm always enthusiastic about adding new creatures to the game, but head devs generally want new maps & backstory. So, if I decided to use a different sprite to replace the dark & robot aruthons, it might be possible to add the minimare & it's lore to the game in the future. Though, I couldn't predict when that would happen. I had begun creating some new maps for the game & planned on creating some new creatures. But that has all been put on hold due to the current issue we are facing.
I can say that it wouldn't be possible for me to add the minimare with it's lore right now. So, perhaps you would prefer that I didn't use it?
Also, our project is always looking for help. We are actually pretty strapped at the moment. There are only currently 3 devs that are very active, & one contributor who has been doing a lot for us.
If you are interested in doing any artwork, or maybe just suggestions, we have a list on our wiki of all the assets that we are replacing.
To communicate with our team, there is an IRC chat channel set up. The methods that we have set up for submitting works is via the project's SourceForge Patches page & GitHub Issues. But, you don't have to use those methods. If you wanted, you could just post something here on OGA & send me a message. Our project is GPL, so we're restricted to compatible licenses such as OGA BY, CC BY, & CC BY-SA.
Now I'm rambling. ;)
Edit: Here is how I used the minimare:
Edit: Here is where I have been keeping credit attributions: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/arianne/stendhal/master/doc/LICENSE-im...
Oh no, thats okay! I understand. From a game dev to another, I know how it works. I wasn't saying you can't use it at all if you did not follow those demands... in fact, they were just fun-requests. lol Those are not demands or (you can only use if you do this) kind of request. lol I have no worries of you using them, it would help the game along and its something that would be amazing for me, since I will be able to see my own creations being used in an actual game by another (other than my own games of course) So you may use them to the fullest. Since you guys went through the work and effort, it would really suck if I just said NO! lol Plus, I think it would work well with the game style and genre.
As for helping, yes I will look into that. I always love MMORPG's and always wished to help. I can also help with more graphics, sounds and anything else. I am also a voice actor -- if that would be beneficial. :p
I do apologize for any confusion... its been one of those days. LOL
Oh yes! When I joined the project, there were not too many SFXs for the game. There are many more now. But there are still WAY more creatures than sounds. We're fairly lacking in ambiance & music for maps as well.
Currently our creatures only use SFXs for a single state. I was actually working on a state for using "death" sounds. But honestly, I don't remember for sure if I finished it. Lol!
On the subject of the minimare, I have the urge now to wait on it & add it as a new creature in the future. Perhaps I should read up on its lore. Maybe I could rework the dark aruthon some more, & the aruthons could be a distant cousin ;). Earlier I said that the head devs wouldn't want me changing the lore of the aruthons. But I think I misspoke. They would be more concerned about changing the name of the aruthons. They really don't have any lore currently attached to them as far as I know.
We are also lacking in the writing department, if you are interesting in that. Like I said, the aruthons, & I think many other creatures do not have backstories. I think most of the towns have some kind of story attached to them, but most are pretty vague. The devs have tried to emphasize making backstories for new maps, characters, & creatures. Probably because not very many were doing it in the beginning.
Also, you may have noticed that the minimare sprite looked somewhat distorted compared to the original. In our rush, we are using the scale2x filter to resize sprites to the correct dimensions. It doesn't look good in my opinion, but it's our best option at them moment. So what I did with you minimar is changed the dimensions to 24x32, then used the scale2x filter to scale it up to 48x64, the dimensions that the aruthons use. Many of the sprites, old & new, have been scaled this way. And honestly, I think it detracts new players from the game. My hope is in the future, to go over all these scaled sprites & clean them up. It's going to be a huge job though.
I'll post a comparison of 24x32 & scaled 48x64 versions so you can see them side by side.
Some of the sprites in the game have not been scaled this way. So it sometimes assets do not look like they are from the same game. :-\
I specialize in SFX and voices. Also, I am known for my writing as well. I am very good at piecing things together. As for the Minimares, you can do what you feel is needed. I can send you some lore to it when the time comes or when you want or need it. Each game I develop has some meaning and in-depth lore. I am very into writing and storytelling. One of my major games, Dream Nation, pretty much ties into most of the games I develop. A Lonely Nightmare was a game with very deep lore and meanings. But I was young and inexperienced then when I wrote and sprited things out.... lol
Now, in terms of writing stuff out, is there some sort of rough ideas or basing for the lore of each creature, NPC, Towns, etc? Like, things that are expected or ideal?
As far as graphics go, there is a wiki page dedicated to specifications. However, I have found that the project does not strictly abide by it. Generally speaking, it's probably good to follow what is written there. I don't think that page has been updated or revised in a while though.
There are assets in the game, the new horses for instance, that don't follow the dimension guidelines laid out there. The old sprites were 48x64. I decided to use bluecarrot16's LPC horses. But to get them down 48x64 would have been quite a bit of work. So I settled for 64x85.
I'll look over the wiki some more. I think there is information there about backstories & lore.
Edit: Oh, I just noticed this :)...
On the wiki it states:
This is not followed by many of the new sprites. The lion and tiger, for example. Because we have different artists working on it, & we're rushing to get the assets replaced, we haven't taken a lot of time to review & talk over the additions. Which honestly, I'm glad they're not being too picky about it because this needs to get done & we don't want to demotivate any potential helpers.
Edit: Also, perspectives don't always match:
Notice that the N/S facing frames of the tiger are level with the viewer, but the view of the horse is angled above.
Here are the tileset specifications. Again, currently not strictly followed.
Here are some pages with bits & pieces of history (the wiki is kind of a mess):
One thing that I think is under-appreciated here: Creative Commons licenses are irrevocable, which means once you have released something under a CC license, you can't take it back (see here: https://creativecommons.org/faq/#what-happens-if-the-author-decides-to-r...). This is to preserve the rights of people who make derivatives of CC-licensed works. Although OpenGameArt allows submissions to be taken down, this is out of courtesy to the authors and is not required.
That said, looks like you may have found a valuable ally, AntumDeluge :)
So, as I understand how the term "irrevocable" is used in the FAQs, the author can choose to relicense his/her work. However, those copies that were distributed under the CC license will retain their licensing & can be, including derivatives, redistributed.
Of course, I would generally want to respect the original author's wishes, unless I felt he/she was being unreasonable.
Edit: But, I also feel that if an author plans on relicensing a work (especially to a non-free license), it would be best for everyone not to use a CC license. At least not the less restrictive ones used here on OGA.
