Hi Everyone,
I'm needing some banner art for the up and comming Summer Game Jam. If there is anyone interested in doing it this year could they let me know below.
First jam was done by ElizaWY, the second was done by Withthelove, this year you?
I would need 2 images, one with the banner image itself, which should include an picture of 'Sara' the OGA mascot and something that you think covers summer and games in general. this should be a minuim size of 315 x250. The second is for background, something light, not to heavy, but compliments the banner. simular to last years background https://itch.io/jam/opengameart-game-jam-2 would be good.
I would need them 2 weeks before the jam starts in july. :)
Thanks.
Or if there are more than 1 person/s that want to do this then maybe we could set it up as an 'art challenge'?
A week-end of "play & rate" is coming... I am so impatient.
@Xom haha! Same! I haven't had chance yet. There are some good entries :)
Done !
My 3 favorites are : The War Over A Melon Field, Trouble in Candyland, Miracle Math Land.
Congratulations to everybody, there were a lot of good games.

This last award left me with a little dillema, there was two game assets that shared the same favourites score of 4. So I took it upon myself to make a choice between them and i hope you will all agree with me.
BEST CONTRIBUTER: OGA summer Jam Banner by Looneybits
There was losts of interesting stuff being made with the banners this year and the community really got behind the banner with their own variations that were used with all of the games in the game jam, so this showed a really great collabarative effort from all involved so i felt it deserved to win this award, not just for Looneybits who created the fantastic banner but to represent all the collabarators as well. Well Done! ;)
Now, I made some certificates for you to download, print off, file them or do whatever with them, which are here as attachments. The blank certificates have been uploaded to the Looneybits submission page from here: https://opengameart.org/content/oga-summer-game-jam-banner-2019

Congratulations Spring! Almost a landslide :) Well deserved I must say. Big shout out to everyone who participated. There are lots of good games in the making. I hope you all keep updating and improving them. I personally enjoyed playing all the games. Even the broken game gave me a chuckle because it lives up to expectations at least XD. Looking forward to the next jam! :)
p.s. those certificates look sweet! I can only hope to achieve one some day ;)
Congratulations Spring!
What a game! And all the cooler knowing you got the idea by looking at Ivan Voirol's 'Slates' set. It really is a great example of the magical creativity that can happen when people share their work. I mean, I am 100% sure Ivan Voirol was not thinking about a little furry dog paddling that water wheel around when he drew it. :)
Great job to everyone else too! Lots of high quality submissions this year. Seems like we are all getting better and really raising the bar on ourselves with each successive Jam. :)
oh and thanks to Chasersgaming for running the show again, those certificates look awesome!
Thank you so much everyone!!! :3
Congrats @Spring(Flofflewoffle) you've done a great job !!

It was fun to take part in this, and I appreciate your generosity :3
I wonder if there will be a fall game jam this year?
Your welcome.:)
I think there will be a 'Fall' jam. I'm sure withthelove will post nearer the time, or he will let us know otherwise. :)

I feel bad in some way, because I believe the banner design has eclipsed, in part, the excellent job that you've done.
So what can I say, keep that excellent job up and thanks for letting me to be involved in it ;)
@Looneybits, Thanks, and i don't believe the 'Banner' design eclipsed the jam at all. :) it contirbuted to the jam in a very succesful way, not just making the jam graphics great. The community got involved creating there own versions which then went into making splash screens for there games, so it generated a great buzz towards the jam and encouraged the community to get involved in the jam in some way. which is great. :)

Hi all!
Sorry I went dark there for a bit. I intentionally secluded myself so I could focus on finishing all the changes I wanted to make to Miracle Math Land to get it to where I was hoping to have it for the Jam. Of course, in my mind that was only going to take just few days and now it's been several weeks, but at least I'm done and now have time for other things.
Specifically, some more OGA Jams!
I'd like to do a Fall Art Challenge and, if there is interest, a Fall Game Jam.
Given, we are half way through Sept. already, does an Oct Art Challenge and a November Game Jam work for folks?
@Basto: I love the fall splash screen!!
ps:
The curious can check out all the new and improved Miracle Math Land at:
https://withthelove.itch.io/miracle-math-land
Those that enjoyed the Jam Build should find the update even more satisfying! :)
I already proposed an art challenge, but it seems nobody was interested by this :( https://opengameart.org/forumtopic/summer-2019-art-challenge-due-june-23...
(I am glad that Spring is interested by my "Annelids" game idea, though)
Edit : maybe most people did not notice, I don't know.
@Xom Adept: Well, the Fall Art Challenge needs a theme and 'make some art of one of these game ideas' seems like as good a theme as any. It's actually a pretty cool idea really.
The only major downside I see is it will require folks to dig through a pretty lengthy thread to read what all the ideas are. Maybe we could put a cut off on it, like 'art for one of the game ideas suggested in this thread as of 9/30/2019'. Then I could just put a quick summary of each idea in the Art Challenge post so folks wouldn't have to read the entire thread to know what the game ideas for the challenge are.
For a proper title, how's 'Art for Another' or 'Brought to Life'?
'Brought to Life' is great because it can double as a broader theme which would fit other more traditional Fall themes (eg. Halloween, eg. Frankenstien monster)....
@xom adept
Oh I am very interested in the annelids if I get the chance.... it was supposed to be more or less a worms clone right, that's at least what I had in mind ^^
Another thing that recently went through my head is a mod jam, since mods jam. (For some games they are more like full games)
Doing crossovers between the big FLOSS games (Xonotic, 0ad, warzone 2100, megaglest, supertuxkart, supertux, wesnoth, springRTS, flare, openttd etc.) or bringing concepts from oga to these games.
@withthelove : yeah, I thought about making a summary of theses ideas too. I will do it this week-end.
@Spring : exactly, it is a Worms clone, with Tiskolin's "worms pack" : https://opengameart.org/content/32x32-worms-pack
@Withthelove, defo interested in the challenge and jam, so i'm in this time. :)
I like the both those challenge titles.
@Basto Wouldn't a mod jam assume that someone would have to own a copy of the title your creating the mod for?, I think someone made a mod in the Summer 2017 jam i think. What resulted was participants looking to rate had to download software or use a third party software and agree/sign terms and conditions which lead to putting some off playing it.
I'm not against a mod jam, or mods in general, just choosing to create a mod for a game jam entry could have less popularity then a standalone game. (in my opinion) But of coarse that is entirely up to the creator. However, that said, I'm sure the communitys of those games you mentioned would benefit from thoses mods, and OGA from the assets if they get released here. :)
@Xom Adept I read through some of the ideas in the thread, some cool ideas, i especially like the one suggested by Surt. For me though i didn't have any ides so i didn't contribute. Sorry. :(

FLOSS means Free/Libre Open Source Software.
All the games I listed can be downloaded for free by everyone and are devoloped by communities, their modding capabilities differ though.
A bonus is that you could get old versions if mods break with newer ones.
The ones I listed are also all cross platform games afaik.
"FLOSS means Free/Libre Open Source Software".
Yes i know that buddy, what i'm saying is 'would participants' download' and Install the mentioned games just to rate a mod or many mods? (free or not) or many of the other mentioned games to play a mod? Thats what i'm highlighting, If ranking is not an issue for them then no problem, but if they would be hopeful of a ranking then they may be at a disadvantage is all im saying. :)
But i welcome mods as a submission to the game jams. :)
Just thinking, are you talking about the OGA summer jams or you thinking a completely other jam.?

@withthelove :
List of ideas done, I will officially announce the "Brought to Life" art challenge tomorrow.
https://opengameart.org/content/list-of-ideas-for-the-oga-ideas-game-jam
@Xom Adept: Ok, what time schedule where you thinking of for the challenge? I am going to run the Game Jam in Novemember (Nov 1 - Nov 30th) so the art challenge should complete before then. although it's not the end of hte world if they overlap I suppose.
anyone want to volunteer to create some cover art for the Fall Game Jam?
Since November is harvest time and a Game Jam is a good time to harvest art from OpenGameArt, I am definiltey thinking the optional theme will have something to do with the word 'harvest' Probably 'Harvest of Open Art' or 'Free Harvest' or something like that. or maybe just the world 'Harvest' to keep it simple....
I am happy to do the logo bit if someone just wants to draw a picture, like Sarah holding a bushel of apples or something like that...
So the fall game jam will involve making a game based on the ideas thread using art (plus existing stuff) from Xom's brought to life challenge?
Let's discuss about it here : https://opengameart.org/forumtopic/ideas-for-games
@ZomBCool: No. The Fall Jam will not require entries to come from any particular thread or list of ideas. Anything folks want to enter will be fine. There will be a 'theme' but it will be strictly optional. I like to provide a theme because it can help provide inspiration for folks wondering what to do for the Jam, but following the theme will not be required.
@Xom Adept:
For the Fall Art Challenge, I think it will encourage more participation to keep the theme loose. I would suggest that folks consider 'bringing to life' art for one of the game ideas on that forum thread, but I would not require it. That way folks who aren't interested in one of those specific ideas can still participate in the challenge. As long as their work fits the broader theme of 'Brought to Life'.
I'l have a go at drawing Sara for the cover art. :)
OK, there doesn't seem to be any feedback anymore regarding the 'Summer jam' just past so I now consider this thread closed. Thanks everyone. :)
