Answer to "Why not just reinstall Diablo"

Answer to "Why not just reinstall Diablo"
if I was a Windows user I’d probably be thinking 'why not just reinstall Diablo?'"

Great question -- once that I don't have a good answer for. It's a fool's quest to try to beat or match Blizzard, even the Blizzard of 15 years ago!
Not at all. Not a fool's quest.

Blizzard doesn't make the best games - at least not in every category. There's a great game which superficially resembles Diablo, but is actually quite different (especially in multiplayer). It's like Diablo made by resourceful and inventive people. It had the misfortune to be released a few months before Diablo2, so most people skipped it. Then EA pulled the plug, EA was never known for long-time support of their games. They only released one or two patches for the game.

I'm talking about Nox.

Nox plays quite different from Diablo. While Diablo is collectible-action-rpg game, Nox is pretty much straight action game. No randomness (I don't think it's a good thing about it), and in multiplayer everyone starts at the same level and stays there. Actually multiplayer modes have much more in common with Quake, with modes like Capture The Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch.

What does it have to do with FLARE ? Well, trying to make another Diablo is pretty much pointless, yes, unless you enjoy it. But I would try to resurrect Nox* and add my own ideas to it. In fact, if FLARE had a decent scripting language, I would start the project. Nox never got the attention it deserved. The game is teeming with original ideas.

* with name change, different world etc, no blatant ripoff.
