Your "8-bit music showreel" does not actually sound very 8-bit? It uses many samples, reverb and other things ...
Very astute! Thanks for listening.
No, it's not "pure 8-bit", but I'm not sure what else to call a showreel aimed at games with a pixel art type aesthetic. What would you suggest?
"Modern 8-bit", or "Hybrid-chiptune" ^^
However I am looking for a composer who has actual mastery of the various sound chips. Do you?
Noted :)
So I use a sample library which has all the sounds from Atari 2600, the Commodore 64, the Sega master System and Genesis, game boy, NES, SNES and the japanese version of the NES.
If you needed anything specifically fitting those, with or without any hybridisation, I could do that easy.
I do need something which fits those. But not through a sample library, but in a format native to the soundchip itself, either emulated or real. For example, .nsf, .sid or .vgm format :)
What I am looking for specifically, is a Sega Genesis soundtrack that places the SN76489 in a lead role rather than the YM2612 ^^
Hm. Well, what I could do is write it using the samples and give you a MIDI file if you wanted to do the conversion yourself.
Hmm indeed. There appears to be a tool called "MIDI2dmf" which will allow me to do such a conversion, but I'm not sure how well it works. I'll come back to you when I figure this out.
There seems to be MIDI to .vgm converters around. But yeah, email me at danieldochertymusic@gmail.com
Just finished a commission and looking for new projects!
