I never showed this before much in the public, but since it's 3d art i'm doing for my project, what the hell.
Long explanation short: OA's a mess technically and stylistically; OA3 is a new 'do it right first' fork fixup of that; also ^_^'d; and still alone in the effort (kinda hard without a concept artist even)
Motivations:
- To make sure characters are already "easy to see" in the first place, just by being anime styled (NOT CELSHADING) in proportions and texture (with lighting still). in other words I'M FIGHTING PROSKINS
- The freaking OpenPandora and other low-end hobbyist portables
- OA is 380mb right now and it offends me that it's 380mb. An ideal size for this kind of thing would be more like 130mb. I'm aware some FPS games are loose and let themselves go into the 700mb-2GB territory. I HATE THAT. If you think "Oh, 380mb is still smaller than Q3!" consider that OA has no music and 1 logo video - Q3 has music and videos that let it go to 470mb sizes. Without all that, it's around 130mb.
Some 2010 stuff (it's a mermaid character!)
That's the only model so far with full limbs. The rest are mising arms, feet and hands and I don't like to show mutilated stuff.
I like the style... but again just a Q3A media replacement? Dunno... but if I even wanted to play Q3A I would do it via QuakeLive anyways... why not use your art skills (which have come a long way!) for something more... hmmm original?
P.S.: You got a OpenPandora yet?... in the end I only got a cheap n900 and thought stuff would be ported from the pandora easy enough anyways (not such a big mobile gamer)... to bad that hasn't really happend :-/
P.P.S: any tips or good tutorials regarding this paintery style? I really suck at painted textures (I render them from models when ever possible :p ), but I kinda like it... definitly a better stylization then cell shading (which really doesn't translated well into 3D).

I don't like words. How about I answer that P.P.S. with a video? That's right, you made me do a skin!
Ahh thanks... painting in Blender... hmm sounds a bit strange to me. Pretty nice drawing skills though! You got a tablet, or is it all mouse done?
You use color blobs on the right side for picking color gradients?
Hmm one thing that might be interesting though about this workflow is that it could be combined with drawing a "paintery" highpoly mesh/normal map via the sculpt tools also... not totally strait forward, but for sure easier than to fiddle about that with three different programs... too bad that I suck at sculpting too ;)

Hmm, can't say I really like that concept... how about something more "Starcraft Infested Kerrigan" like?
P.S.: Nothing screams "Dark/Succubus" like heart shaped underware :p

so apparently attached images can't be deleted?
I give up.
