L++ is an open-source Lemmings clone -- one of the major features of this clone is networked multiplayer (up to 8 players). Right now it uses the original game art from the Lemmings games, but in the spirit of being free, the primary developer is looking for art to replace the characters, terrain, etc.
The game (Windows and Linux binaries and source) can be found at http://camanis.net/lemmings/files/clones/lpp/ as the game has been removed from the official website pending the graphics replacement. However, since we have no artists, it is going rather slowly.
If anybody is interested, there is a forum located at http://lplusplus.co.cc/forum.php or you can usually catch somebody in the IRC channel, #lemmings on irc.enterthegame.com
Is there a list somewhere showing what images have already been replaced and a simple way to view the original lemmings graphics that have to be replaced?
What are the specs for the lemming character graphics? How many pixels tall, etc? Is pixel-perfect size important to the puzzles in some levels?
Should the characters still be lemmings, or should they be some new creature (e.g. penguins, hobgoblins, mole-men)? Should their jobs be identical to Lemmings (e.g. digs with hands) or should they be reflavored (e.g. digs with jackhammer)?
Answers are at http://lplusplus.co.cc/graphrep.php
Basically, creatures should be the same size (but L++ is pixel-doubled from Lemmings, so there's more room to work); flavor them however, but slightly cute is preferable.
For terrain, unless you want a challenge, you probably won't want to follow the old masks from the original pieces. As long as terrain sets have pieces that can make a wide variety of layouts, anything should be fine. If you can make something in the same style as the original graphics, all the better. :)
I've been doing replacements, trying to make original, new gfx, based on the original sets from L1. I have a few sets already complete: 0 - Dirt, 1 - Hell, 2 - Pastel, 3 - Pillar, and 7 - Snow. If you would like to have my replacements, what's done so far is here:

Extract this .zip file directly into the bitmap folder.
Here are all of the original L1 sets, if you'd like to help out: 0 - Dirt, 1 - Hell, 2 - Pastel, 3 - Pillar, 4 - Crystal, 5 - Brick, 6 - Rock, 7 - Snow, 8 - Bubble, and 9 - Xmas:

As I said above, 0, 1, 2, 3, and 7 are complete. I am currently working on 4 - Crystal, creating an original idea Simon thought of. So when i'm finished, it will be "4 - Gold Mine", instead of 4 - Crystal. If you have any ideas or designs for the other sets, the only things recommended are:
1)you still include the same number in front, if the name is changed, so the set replaced is easily recognized, and
2)when you make your replacements, make your best attempt to use the original mask only (for those that don't know already, its the area inside the pink color).
It would be awesome to get help on this, since I just got lead on a new job, and may not have time to continue this soon. Plus, the faster all 10 of these are replaced, the faster the game goes back up for download. If you want to discuss any ideas you may have, or play L++, I'm in the IRC channel most of the time.
Thanks a lot, hope to see you there!
