Drupal 7 Core is basically finished, save for a few bugs. However, OGA uses a number of modules that go way beyond Drupal's core functionality, and not all of them are quite ready.
Now that I'm sitting down to work on the actual 2.0 site, I'm realizing as I build the node structure that I could have done things a lot better than I did originally. Here are some of the modifications I'm making, if people are curious:
Given our recent discussion of html5 versus Flash, I thought it might be good for me to talk a bit about how I come to decisions regarding what browsers to support and whether to use Flash or Javascript.
Just a heads up to everyone. By user suggestion, in order to keep things moving, I'm going to put a time limit on comments and ideas for OGA 2.0. If you have a feature suggestion or other idea, please post it before then if you'd like it to receive serious consideration for OGA 2.0. If you happen to think of something after that, most likely it will need to wait for 2.1. :)
At the moment, we don't have any actual PayPal integration, which means that each donation has to be entered manually by me, and then I have to update the donations block. This is fine, but it's prone to error (math errors, missing donation notifications from paypal, me being off on vacation or something and not being around to update the Donations block at an appropriate time).
So, one thing that will definitely be a part of the OGA 2.0 experience is the Medal system. Medals are well-liked, but they have certain shortcomings that I'd really like to address. Here's what to expect:
What exactly are they? And the number of points displayed under my name (currently 29) is different from the number in the infobar that shows up when I do something (User Robinearned1 points Total now is 20 points.)
Just wanted to know, it has been bugging me since forever. :P
Where OGA 1.0 is an archive of free, legal art for open source game projects, OGA 2.0 will be a platform that brings together coders, designers, and artists to make awesome games. Now, unlike with art, it doesn't necessarily make sense for us to archive code. There are plenty of other free code archiving and versions services out there (such as SourceForge and Github) that do it better than we ever could.
At the moment, I'm lifting blocks and such from the main site. Note that this is nowhere near set in stone -- I'm just playing around with tightening up the layout. Still to do are the blog post, the list of favorites, affiliates, etc. In the meantime, I thought people might want to take a look. :)
Just wanted to put it out there that OGA 2.0 is going to be a massive undertaking, and it will be quicker if I'm not doing it all myself. If anyone has the time and inclination, we'll need people to do art, design, and code. If this is something you'd be willing to help out with, please chime in here. :)
