It's a good submission, and gavlig actually read the submission guidelines and was conscienscious enough to remove the stuff from cgtextures (thank you, by the way -- it's a pain having to remove submissions because of that).
@gavlig: I can't tell if you're discouraged or not, but don't be. I'd personally like to see more of your work here if you're up for submitting any. Keep up the good work! :)
If you look at the art commissioned by OGA, you'll notice that the vast majority of it is CC-BY. Originally it was licensed CC-BY-SA, but the additional publicity we got from making it easier for people to use brought in more new art than the share-alike requirement.
Note that I have no plans to eliminate the GPL and CC-BY-SA as possible license choices for art.
There's actually a plan for something akin to a rating system. From worst to best:
Abandoned
WIP
Finished
Polished
The idea here is that rather than just saying "this is bad", we look at art as an iterative process and give people advice on how to get their art to a finished state. Note that art only gets labeled "Abandoned" if it sits in WIP status for a long time without any work done on it. At that point, other people might be able to take ownership of it and improve on it.
Yeah, it should be a lot easier now, so hopefully we'll have challenges up consistently. It's aactually possible to have more than one going at the same time now, too, which means we can have more specific themes.

Unflagged. Thanks. :)
Flagged license issue. Let me know when it's fixed.

Yeah. We'll have to go through the old stuff and rate it. I agree that finding the best art here can be a problem sometimes, even with favorites.

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. :)
Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem.
The initial battle system looks like that because it was easy to code.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your entry.
Since we have official word from the project, it seems like it should be fine to post the assets apart from the ones mentioned.
