Actually rigging seems to work surprisingly well on my slow PC (well at 10fps or so)... tonight I strongly improved the foot rig (according to the tutorial above, that with the action target, not the python script) and once I have cleaned up the rig a bit I will publish a version 2.0. Stay tuned ;)
Not exactly funny, but some art and freedom related quotes:
All of the arts, poetry, music, ritual, the visible arts, the theater, must singly and together create the most comprehensive art of all, a humanized society, and its masterpiece, free man. (Bernard Berenson)
I believe art is foremost for the artist who creates it. You do it for your soul, and if the rest of the world gets something from it, that's a bonus. (Marion Boddy-Evans
Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it. (Bertolt Brecht)
True art is undeniable and it is a gift for all humanity. (Charles Philip Brooks)
Art has a prophetic role, denouncing the culture it lays bare. (Langdon Gilkey)
Art is one of the glorious things humans have created. On earth, we are alone in this. Art defines us. (Eugene Mendonsa
Art is not made for anybody and is, at the same time, for everybody. (Piet Mondrian)
I do not want Art for a few any more than education for a few, or freedom for a few. (William Morris)
All art is propaganda; on the other hand, not all propaganda is art. (George Orwell)
Minority art, vernacular art, is marginal art. Only on the margins does growth occur. (Joanna Russ)
Art is the distortion of an unendurable reality... Art is correction, modification of a situation; art is communication, connection... Art is social, self-sufficient, and total. (Jean Tinguely)
Art is like baby shoes. When you coat them with gold, they can no longer be worn. (John Updike)
I think the reasoning behind not just "mirroring" art from game projects was that that it is a very moving target, and little additional benefit could be taken from just putting (soon outdated) stuff here too.
What I think would have some merit though would be for example to take all the palm trees from 0AD convert them to a fiendly format and upload them as a "0AD tree pack" or something like that to OGA.
I am operating the water supply for a WFP (UN) camp here is Pakistan. What you see is my "office" which is actually the laboratory for testing the potable water we produce. Luckily we have ACs in our tents... even with "winter" onset it's still 35°C during the day (was 45°C when I arrived).
Oh and for those that wonder... yes the flood is still pretty bad here in Pakistan, a few day ago I took an aid delivery helicopter flight to an affected area and a huge area is still completely flooded, even though it's now almost 2 months ago that this catastrophe started.
I recently had a closer look at the Md5/iqm implementation in Sauerbraten/Cube2 (which I think would be a good reference implementation if this is to become a unified game rig), and there all you need to do is to specify at which bone the hirachy is split in a simple .cfg file by adding the bones name. Furthermore you need to specify the torso and head bones which follow the mouse movement.
Overall it's a pretty strait forward implementation however.
I will probably add the copy rotation rig and the things necassary for iqm comatibility in the next following weeks, but it might be delayed a bit since I just fried my laptop yesterday :( (no data lost though).
The four hand bones btw are a pretty nice way of animating the fingers... maybe it would be sufficient if I simply omit these in the copy rotation rig? that way we could get the benefits of them for animation, but they would never show up in the exported model. The same could be done for quite a few additional bones btw.
Oh and what about a face rig? Does anyone have some pointers for a simple game face rig, or how to set up the rig that one could easily added if necessary?
Bump... check the discussion in the linked rig from me too ;)
Here is a nice way to rig a mouth that would also lend itself well to a game model (few bones), so we could also make a optional face rig:

Still planning to improve this some time but my PC with an actual GPU broke, thus working in Blender is extremly slow on this machine :(

Thanks for putting your trust in FreeGamer ;) I apologize for the low number of posts lately ;)
Pretty good is http://www.tigsource.com/ for indy games... much of it is closed source though.
Otherwise there are a bunch of good Linux-gamng site, which by the nature of the game are also mostly about open-ourse games (random order):

Uhh... does sitting in a tent in a UN camp in Pakistan count as a command center?

errmmm... might be intended, but it seems to be quite homoerotic :-/
