~ Moonlight ~

I'm here requesting art from the community for a game I'm working on.

A bit about the game:

It's called Moonlight.

It's a single player side scroller.

The player uses a variety of light-based powers to defeat enemies.

A lot of the game is going to be based on shadows and reflections (code for this is in place).

Enemies have some root in Doctor Who lore (no direct relation to the intellectual property, though).

The game is dark and noire-esque (in art style). Think of a Max Payne narrative with Limbo-esque graphics. It is planned to be frightening at times and enemies can be disconcerting (test subjects, "wraiths", cannibal survivors).

The main character wakes deep within a massive facility (think "Portal" gone wrong) and has to fight his way to the surface all the while running from a sadistic Darkness that is always close behind.

The art style is meant to be dark, with much of the game being sillhouettes or gray scale.

I'm looking for creative character art in regards to the following:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player Controlled Characters

Carl

Carl is the player controlled protagonist. Carl uses a variety of powers to extinguish his enemies. Carl wears a lab coat with a protective vest strapped over it.

Common Enemies

Test Subject

A Test subject is a low health, melee creature that hits for small amounts of damage and is quite slow. Test subjects are frequently encountered and easily dispatched, but large numbers can be difficult to deal with. Test subjects come in a variety of forms, from apparently unaffected by the Occurrence to heavily mutated. Test subject essences can be absorbed.

Survivor

Survivors are generally in business suits or lab coats. They are armed with pipes, taser-sticks, and occasionally pistols. Survivors attack Carl on sight and  yell things like “There he is!” and “Kill the experiment!”. Survivor essences can be absorbed.

Sand

Sand is a dark substance that absorbs living essence upon physical contact. Sand has the ability to restore the essence of what it has absorbed in the form of Flickers. If Carl touches Sand, he is instantly absorbed and dies. Sand cannot be absorbed. Sand can be destroyed by moonlight. Flickers created by Sand cannot harm the Carl, but work to distract him.

Shade

A Shade is a dangerous entity, made of the Darkness extracted from previous Test subjects. Shades cannot be harmed by any weapons; Carl must use powers to defeat them. Shades resemble hulking silhouettes somewhat humanoid in appearance. The majority of their bulk is in their upper body where tubes and hoses mix with gears and vents built into their torso. Shades have glowing eyes. Shades use their entire bodies to fling pieces of charged essence at their foes. They do moderate damage and can be absorbed once killed.

I'm working on pathing AI right now as well as level rendering. If you would like to message me in regards to art for Moonlight, please be aware that any monetary compensation is entirely based on whether the game makes any money in the end. If you would like to make a simple 5 minute pen-and-paper sketch for the game, go ahead. If you would like to go all out and spend 30 hours illustrating a detailed digital illustration, that's fine too. Just keep in mind that all stills will be vectorized and animated for the final game, regardless of format.

If you have any questions, I'll answer them in the thread.

Thanks in advance,

Plakat
