Spring is in the air and it's time to create something new, something fun, something exciting, something for the OpenGameArt.org Spring 2019 Game Jam!
This year's theme is 'I enjoy my life' and enjoy your life you will if you participate in this thrilling game jam!
Complete details at:

(prelude written by withthelove)
So yes, it has finally become time for this game jam,,, last year we definitely had some quality entries and I hope it can continue with this! I am actually quite excited for this but unfortunately has a hard time wording myself in a fancy or cool way, believe it tho :'D
It will be all-OGA again, that worked out greatly last time in my opinion and it didn't seem like it was a major bother to most of the participants, so we'll be rolling with that again ^^
As far as the time period is concerned, the submission period is 30th of march 2019 - 30th of april 2019.
If you have any questions or something on the itch.io page isn't working right, please comment! I will try to work on it as soon as possible!
Have fun everyone (and mods when you see this, can I kindly request this to be linked on the front page? :3)
~Spring
Yaaay!
Anything in particular you would like on the front page announcement for this jam?
--Medicine Storm
To be honest, nothing special really, other than a link to the thread here and maybe the itch.io page as well? :D
Yay! I'm all in on this one! but of course, FloffleWoffle already knew that, we're going to collaborate on a game for this jam! Very excited, neither of us have done a team project for one of these jams before so wish us luck!

Yesh!!
Good luck to you both! :)

If anyone wants a composer to collaborate with, send me a message!
IT'S ONNNN!!!
@Joth
aww, if only you had said a couple of days earlier (I know I replied at bit late too tho) I might not have started on the soundtrack myself!! Now it's a bit too late I feel, but I hope you'll find another project to work on ^^
I have viddled up two 'Created for OpenGameArt.org's Spring 2019 Game Jam' pics if people want to use them.
These are 1920x1080 but should resize to whatever you need them to be.
Working on a low-res version using the SMS palette for use in Spring and I's game. Will post that ASAP.

(smol disclaimer, even though this jam begins on april 1st, it is actually not fake :P)
Anyway we can get this Jam linked up in the top left hand corner of the main page?
IIRC previous jams and challenges have gotten a little blurb there where 'Chat With Us' is.
https://withthelove.itch.io/
Yes. It'll say "Art Challenge" even though this is a Game Jam. If Spring is cool with that, I'll add it right away.

VERY nice!
So I played around with pygame. To my knowledge "fullscreen" under SDL1 which is used by pygame is underwelming.
I tried out pygame_sdl2. It doesn't stretch the screen the way I want.
Python arcade library does what I want but while 1.3.7 works the latest 2.0.3 does not. The idea was to use one of these frameworks to speed up development. It doesn't seem to be helping. These screenshots are from example pygame programs. I would be doing something different but thought I'd start with a simple platformer base.
Aww, I know nothing about pygame but I hope you find a way! If you don't, release it as is even,, we want your stuff in the jam! ^v^
Anyone want to team up and do something?
With Unity? Sure. With Gamemaker? SURE!
Looking for an artist or sound person to collab with on this :) Less than 22 days left, looking to get started by tomorrow!
@Dimensionscape: Try pinging Joth for music/sound.
@dulsi: Yuck, that does look wrong :( I use SDL1 and C# for all my stuff and have never had an issue with the fullscreen support but I can't speak to pygame.

Awwwwh no D:
this jam is kinda turning into a disaster, I have those horrible mental problems too and just can't keep anything in my head, let alone a game project...
but that hard drive crash on top of that is also so unlucky man, I feel bad for you xwx
Hoping to finish my submission today or tomorrow. :3
That sure was nice and quick! you must have been working really efficiently :3
@Spring: There are always problems. Don't let them get you down. I'm still hoping to get something available.
Hehe, I am used to doing 24, 48, and 72 hour jams.
How are everyone's projects going? :3
Mine has kinda flubbed, which can be said about the jam althogether :p
Well, I didn't join this one, but it inspired me to brush off some old projects and work on them, so I'd say that's a success. :)
--Medicine Storm
The jam itself is sort of a failure in my opinion, but good to hear you got something out of it!
Don't be calling it before the finish line; there's 29 people participating and they still have 10 days to submit. I turned in my last jam submission with only 8 minutes left on the timer. :)
--Medicine Storm
I know, that's not so much what I mean either, it's more my own management of the jam as well as my project which have been going awfully.
But there could certainly be some great games in there still!
Theres nothing wrong with the jam Spring. People will participate or they wont. As MedicineStorm says, theres a potential 29 entrys that could come from this jam. You could get a surge of entrys towards the end. its no way a disaster. I was taking part in the jam, but i hadn't actually clicked that, 'Join Jam' button. obvouisly I can't now coz of my hardrive stuff, but i was in there trying. Spring is a tricky month i reckon, i mean, my kids are on half term for 2 weeks, thens theres Easter, so theres a lot going on. Even if only one game gets submitted, its assets used from the OGA site, and potential for some new assets as a result, i'm sure there will be more. you set the jam up well, so well done for that, its a bit of experience for you if you host another jam of your own or another one for OGA. Always a positive in to take from something. still 10 days to roll, perhaps if anyone wants to show some WIP's, just post them here, il love to see some stuff! :)

@chasersgaming I guess you are somewhat right. I'm not sure when people with kids are ever not busy though ^^ sorry about your hard drive too...
I did have something actually. I just have no idea how to finish it and also lost motivation, for some reason. It's not very good either :p
The question is whether I should submit it even if unfinished.

I haven't joined the jam yet either. I've been procrastinating on starting a new project. I did manage to do an update for Troll Bridge and added the artwork to this site. Enormous Mutant Badgers sounds like a win to me.
ok
Interesting stuff! Might be good!
@dulsi let's see..
My game is up... it's an extremely lazy effort and I'm not even spending all the time, but I simply have no motivation left...
Hello Spring. Well, for now I am quite busy with several personnal programming projects, not game-related. After that, I will have to learn using a game engine / game maker, in order to make better games. So, unfortunatelly, I will not create something in this jam, neither in the summer jam.
However, like all OGA jams, I will test and rate games.
The jam is not a failure as long as at least one good game is done... which is the case :-)
And as others said, there is still one week.
For the fall jam, I posted Phoenix Hunt 1 day and a half before the end, for the first OGA jam, MedicineStorm posted a submission 8 minutes before the end...
Things can still happen.
And, I repeat, if they don't, there is still one good game which posted by you.
Testing and rating is an important support too! Just take your time until you are ready with something even if its not until next year to be honest ^^
And yeah, there's still a bit of time :D I'm sure that pretty much anything else can beat my game though :'3 though I'm still glad you like it! Maybe I'll take it further one day, but right now it just feels like a chore ^v^ so it will have to make do as is.
Hello people! Goodnight! I'm full with my game, the truth is that I've taken it with great enthusiasm, a couple of years ago I have not participated in any indie contest .. so I come with great enthusiasm, in my case I'm using processing and my own engine for 2D games. I call it gameLibZero and it has a free MIT license for any use. When I publish my entry to the contest I will also publish the engine with which it is made, it is multiplatform and free, and most importantly, it is a library for great processing that is giving so much lately. Is it possible to publish a screen or video of the game I'm doing?
Great to hear it's going well for you!
Of course you can add screenshots or videos ^^ do you need an explanation of how to do so?
Working on a small "dungeon defense" game with a turn-based battle. Hopefully will be ready before the deadline.

awesome! seems like there's alot of great stuff brewing for this jam! :)

Enjoy it!
Another screen of my game ;)

Hi guys, I just learned of this site and then this jam a couple days ago. I'm going to enter my GBStudio built game boy game, Leonid & Swagger, but the rule that concerns me is having the drop down menu at the title screen. Even though this game will be playable as an html 5 game in any browser, it's built on a data-restricted game boy engine. I don't think it'll be possible.
I fully intend to credit all assets used/created, but I was wondering if that was ok.
Should be fine as long as it can be uploaded to itch.io and can be played by others.
Oh, you have already done it. :) cool
Il look forward to playing you game, and having a go at you GBStudio. :)
