Hi Everyone,
I'm needing some banner art for the up and comming Summer Game Jam. If there is anyone interested in doing it this year could they let me know below.
First jam was done by ElizaWY, the second was done by Withthelove, this year you?
I would need 2 images, one with the banner image itself, which should include an picture of 'Sara' the OGA mascot and something that you think covers summer and games in general. this should be a minuim size of 315 x250. The second is for background, something light, not to heavy, but compliments the banner. simular to last years background https://itch.io/jam/opengameart-game-jam-2 would be good.
I would need them 2 weeks before the jam starts in july. :)
Thanks.
Or if there are more than 1 person/s that want to do this then maybe we could set it up as an 'art challenge'?
@chasersgaming
I hope you will make these small cards again this year, I really love those and collect them :3

I'l definatly be doing them, its what i do!, ive done them for every jam and game ive rated. there on my website which sadly is under maintainace and wont be back up until the new year, but they are on my twitter page. :) I may make some certificates for this jam so the winners can print off.
Latest: (First Look are demos/alpha games)

Since I completely forgot about the summer jam, I was kinda taken by surprise when it came up. I scrambled around and decided to try and remake the game I made in the first summer jam, except hopefully better and not pixel-art.
I whiped up some tilesets with normal maps (they're far from perfect).
I got the player's movement figured out with jump, double jump and the megaman-esque "only three shots at a time". The shots on the original game had some weird "inaccuracy", where it doesn't fly in a straight line but rather it kinda floats around, so I recreated that. I also have the shots requiring mana and a mana regeration system.
I have the system in place for the witch taking damage with a knockback force dependant on a strength, read from a damaging component that can be added to anything.
And lastly some basic pickups to restore mana and hp.
I'm pretty happy with the turnout so far BUT I'm about to move so that's pretty much as far as I could get. In short, I'm fairly sure I won't be making it to submission. Either way, I'll post the tileset when I get it cleaned up.

EDIT:The game isn't actually laggy, I just accidently recorded at 30fps instead of 60.
it does look quite good though! Your art is always so good and the character is cute :3
Hi Spring, I have tested your "melons" game.
Good work. I have written a comment on itch.
Nice, thank you for your feedback!
It feels a little wierd finishing before everyone else, but as long as you think the game is good enough...
And I was worried that it would be too hard but apparently you don't think so, so that's good :3
@ chasers lookin smart dude! You goin for a job interview? :)
@ Spring you smashed it with the early entry! Kudos! It looks awesome.
I haven't had chance to play yet though been trying to get my game done hey....almost there. Entered the play testing/bug squashin phase.
How's everyone else getting on?
I'm looking for a way to get music into my game and try to avoid to manually program the synthesizers. I think I'm close, I just have to understand how I wrap that assembly with C.
There's an entry featuring a boss from cuphead, not sure what the legality of that is and it neither uses any OGA assets.
Cuphead is the intelectural property of Studios MDHR Corp, (they even knew that) he/she does not have the permissions needed to use that work. The submission was only a 'graphical asset' and not a game, and quite right, it used no OGA assets at all. Im normaly notified when theres activity on the jam page, but i wasn't on this occassion, strange, even so, the submission has been removed. :) thanks.

The itch notifications can be very delayed for some reason.
Also, no beard o.o
yeah, i think it has something to do with times i suppose, I'm UK, so he/she probly submitted it last week and i'm only just seeing it, hahahaha.
Yep, had a shave and a haircut, knocked 10 years of myself. :)

happy reverse 10 birthdays :D
I think I will allow to play random levels where you can enter a seed.
Looked fun when a bug resulted in a random level.
I gave up on music ... a rhythmic pling plong must be enough.

random level generator might be a good idea!
How do you even make the music for an engine running on the game boy?
@looneybits: So I put the 'Made For the OGA Summer Jam' logo in my game start up sequence and it is AWESOME!!
It's so good actually that it got me thinking....
It'd be great to have a variant of this same logo that went something like this:
Made with art from
OGA logo
www.opengameart.org
It could serve as an unofficial 'Made with...' banner for projects using OGA art.
Any chance you'd be interested in whipping up a variant like that?
https://withthelove.itch.io/
"Art found on OGA".
Btw ... what's that banner licensed as?
@Spring: There are a few players avalaible. For XPMCK compiled music (wla-dx assembly), for .gbs exports of deflemask (rgbds assembly). GBT Player (rgbds assembly) converts a .mod file to a custom format, but it will sound different from the original. But those are incompatible with the GBDK (assembler of sdcc) I'm using. There is also mmlgb for GBDK, but I did not manage to make any music with cannels 3 and 4. https://github.com/gbdev/awesome-gbdev
EDIT2: They convert music to an assembly or c file which can be included into your program then.
Thx !!
@withthelove: I can't wait for playing your game ;)
Another variant of this banner, no problem. :D
@Baŝto: CC0, I had in mind to upload it on my OGA profile, but I've made a search and found out that any of the previous banners weren't uploaded, so tell me, folks what should I do?
Done.

Or maybe "Proudly using open game art" ... and a glitched version that shows for a fraction of a second "Proudly using odd game assets" ... okay I stray a bit
@loonybits collecting and uploading all the banners might be a good idea so people don't have to search the forum if they want to use and/or modify them in the future :)
I am using your splash screen leading into the credits scene as well as chasers animated banner when the game first boots and I will definitely add them to any of my future game jam entries ;)
well, just under 7 days to go! i trust that you are all doing well. :)
very much looking forward to playing all the games submitted, and im taking a keen interest with the banner stuff. I never knew the banner work would become quite a focus. Perhaps maybe i could of created a prize for 'Best Baner', like who uses the banner in the best way or something, maybe next year we could do that?
Don't forget if/when uploading assets created for your game to tag 'summerjam' so i can place it in the 'Best Contributor' collection, Also, im aware that it could take sometime to prepare/pack your assets ready for submitting, and that this could take time away from the development time of your project, so im more than happy to extend the time to submit assets to OGA to a week(7 days) after the jam submission ends. this should allow you to focus on your project and worry about the assets during the first week of the ratings time. :)

> so im more than happy to extend the time to submit assets to OGA to a week(7 days)
THANK YOU! Definitley have a little bundle of goods going for OGA here but got a feeling I'll need that extra time to bundle it all up proper.
My project is going well and sounding great too thanks to some assitance from Spring! :)
Actually, I wish I was on here sharing more about it with you all, but I am always such a secret squirell about that stuff.
@looneybits: SPECTACULAR!! I really like the new wording! much slicker than mine. Also, thanks for posting the SVG, I'll put some time into doing NES, SMS, etc variants once the Jam finishes up.
As far as how to publish the banner, I think making a proper OGA submission out of it is a great idea. People can either post variants as comments to the main submission or make whole new submissions out of them. Maybe we could also get some kind of sticky-post on one of the main forum or other pages directing folks to the banner.
@VinnNo.0: WitchyBizness: ReMastered looks awesome and your banner animation is wicked awesome! :)
https://withthelove.itch.io/
Advice: don't try to combine 16px wide blocks with UINT8 and pythagoras ... 16*16=1
Hi folks!!
I've uploaded the banner to my oga profile, everyone that has made a variant and published it on this thread has been added as a collaborator, so you are able to upload your own versions...
https://opengameart.org/content/oga-summer-game-jam-banner-2019
:P
Good ! I will put my banners tomorrow, then (no time tonight).
Maybe Spring should be added as a collaborator, he also did his version, but not here, on Itch.
By the way, there is a new entry in the jam, but I am not sure it respects the "6 OGA assets" rule. If somebody can check...
@Xom_Adept done!
Sorry mr. @Spring
OK, the game "Little One" uses OGA assets.
There is a collection here : https://opengameart.org/content/little-one
@Xom Adapt the submission is fine. :)

It seems totally legit. I'm playing it right now!
Beach banners added :)
https://opengameart.org/content/oga-summer-game-jam-banner-2019
@Spring :
I thought I had beaten your game, but it seems you really did the second and third quests. How to unlock them? The description of your game says to "hack the save file"...
Hey mate, if you add me as a collaborator I will upload the audio samples that go with chasers and vinnNO's animated banners. Or someone else can upload them. All good :)
3 days left ... slowly I get doubtful about making it in time.
I am in. Not as polished as I'd like but I am out of time, gotta go catch a plane.
Hope folks like it!

@withthelove, looks great! Looking forward to playing it.
its down to the wire peeps! Code like the wind!
You can do a lot in 24 hours without sleep, food or drink breaks :)
32h left, some game jams are just 24h
Oh dear, nasty bug makes Adventure mode in Miracle Math unplayable.
simple data file fix, just hope I can sneak in time to post a build before the door closes.
my fault for releasing without proper play testing :(
https://withthelove.itch.io/
phew, got the bug fix in. Hopefully not too many have judged the game based on broken build.
Can't wait to see what others have come up with!
https://withthelove.itch.io/
Nice! Plenty of time mate ;) another 20 hours til ratings start. I am going to play and rate all the games on Sunday. Can't wait :)
WHoa, what's this???

If somebody wants to give my game a shot.
I was a few seconds late, my browser is lagging like hell *shrugs
EDIT: Caution: It's still buggy and unfinished. Only one premade level.
@medicine Haha! Pro tip. To save time when trying to read this on a tablet, lock screen rotation :)

I'm trying it~
it's simple and lovely
but lots of dropdown menu! i click and i cant go back to game???
did you write all those menu before you made it? and map it all
'D love to see how you made it! :D
@ǝıuusןısn: I wrote a Game Boy game, the dropdown menus are just part of the Game Boy emulator, I use.
Edit: sources of my game are located here https://github.com/basxto/great-burst
Just finished playing though all the games, going to give them all a second pass before finalizing my ratings, but I just want to say I'm loving those logos! I think almost every entry used one and they looked so good! I think we can call it a great success! :)
https://withthelove.itch.io/
I have played and rated all your games, well done everyone. i feel this is going to be to close to call!
Now a little reminder to you all.

https://opengameart.org/content/oga-jam-best-contribution-assets
