Hi,
I thought it would be great to have some argumentation to rely on when trying to advertise Opengameart.org in some forum or game project. I guess many of you have different points of view on the site and many different reason why you like, use and contribute to opengameart.org. In this thread I would like to try to collect them to get good arguments for the next discussion as well as understanding why this site is important to you.
The reasons why I like the site are quite easy: To me the site is like a glue between open source game projects that can make the individual projects stronger, as they can exchange media more open. Also it can make it easier to concept and design new games. Of course the fear to lose the game own individuality is reasonable, but on the other hand projects can lose their identity because of many others reasons as well (like a lot of different contributors with a different view on how the game should look like for example). So picking the art carefully seems as secure to me as choosing the art contributed by artist for the game. The project can develop faster, easier and possibly get more interesting (as I often realized when looking at carefully made collage art). Also people shouldn't forget that they can change and tweak any of the media on the site for their aims, which even helps projects that demand individualized media a priori.
Personally I am glad that finding media for my games is now made easier, as well as I can get some exposure by posting my music on the site.
Please add your point of view and reasons why you like the site too,
remaxim
A repository of media suited for games that I can either use directly or modify and get inspired by as I wish without having to worry about copyright infringement. Hopefully, it will eventually also become a good "breeding ground" for games, a good place for artist-composer-developer cooperation, and a good way for all of those to promote their work. Also, inter-game collaboration, like you mention.
