I've done some more work on the art collection interface, and it's now possible to add art to a colleciton from the search results page. Just select your collection in the "Collect Into" pulldown, and collect buttons will appear on each search result. From there, it's a single click to add new items to your collections.
I've also updated the official commissions and staff picks collections. They still need work, though. :)

Superb work Bart, as usual.
"The purpose of collections is to allow us to organise art into coherent sets"
With coherent,do you mean in style? I assume that's it, but want to clear that, since there is some slight chance that somebody will start using them as tags instead, e.g. start collecting dragons from all kinds of styles in a collection called "There e Dragons"....
I think that style is one measure of coherence. Genre might be another, either literary or game. Subject matter might be yet another. I don't think there are limits on what kinds of collections you can make any more than there are on what kinds of art you can submit (well, ok, there must be some logistical limits on both, but you know what I mean).
If somebody wants to collect all the dragons in a set, I say go for it. Honestly, while they were intended to address certain issues that people have brought up in the past, you don't have to use them for any one particular purpose. If you're inspired to make a collection, then make one. There aren't any rules as to what a collection should or shouldn't be. :)
