Hi,
I was wondering how original Sara is? Is she based on some typical visual traits I'm unaware of (like pointy hat = wizzard)?
The reason why I'm asking this is because my boy wanted to watch a cartoon about a fantasy game. So I've searched for that, and to my biggest surprise I've found Leadale no Daichi nite.
In that series, the heroine has a cyan coloured three-feather-like jewel in her long blonde hair, blue eyes, wears a cloak. She is not only a game avatar, but also a mage too... Sounds familiar?
What do you think? Is this protagonist based on Sara, or could this level of resemblance be just a mere coincidence?
Cheers,
bzt
ps: I haven't seen the series, so I don't know if it's good or not, but wouldn't it be cool if it really were Sara? :-)
Sara was uploaded here in 2009: https://opengameart.org/content/sara-wizard
In the Land of Leadale wasn't serialized until 2010. It's more likely that Tenmaso was inspired by Mandy than the other way around. :P

Yeah, Sara is the older without the slightest doubt, that was never a question to me. (And for the records, according to wikipedia, the first art for Leadale appeared in 2019, not before.)
The question is, do they share some common mage girl's characteristics which I'm unaware of (which would explain the similarity), is the similarity just a total coincidence, or can we state without a doubt that this anime character was modeled after Sara?
What do you think? I'm really curious about the community's opinion, and if possible about Mandi's too.
Cheers,

EDIT: I did some digging, and here's the first web-published version of the light novel from 2010. I can't read Japanese, but I can see there's no art in that, which confirms wikipedia, namely the first depicting of Leadale's heroine dates to 2019. But even if the first light novel had illustrations, Sara would still be the older.)
i lean towards pure coincidence, but only out of feeling, not out of any evidence. it is possible that there is some common inspirational ancestor to both of them? interesting find, without a doubt.
edit: i read the gist of the plot from the wikipedia article, and the "girl gets sucked into her video game world after dying" plot basis is very cool and resonates with me somehow. but anime is not my thing, so i doubt i will ever consume this.
Hi all
I read the first few chapters of the manga a while back on a whim, and I can say that she's most likely not based on Sara. It's a lot more apparent in the light novel though, since they're able to express more of the deisgn there. The greens are a lot stronger than Sara in most art, the hair shorter, the headband and cloak both unfamiliar to Sara's design. If you ask me, they most likely both just share a coincidental ancestor in fantasy "blonde female elf/mage" looks which are incredibly common.
P.S. from what I read the manga was surprisingly good, definitely one of the better "video game isekai's" i've read.

Thanks for your answers!
@Ragnar Random: "it is possible that there is some common inspirational ancestor to both of them?"
Yes, that's what I meant by "share some common mage girl's characteristics which I'm unaware of". It would be very interesting to know who that ancestor might be (it doesn't really matter, I'm just curious).
"i doubt i will ever consume this"
Same here, after the first episode my boys voted it down, and I only watch cartoons with them. They have chosen Itai no wa Iya nano de Bōgyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu instead, so that's what we're going to watch. That's a comedy too, similar plot, plays in a VRMMORPG game too, but the heroine is oblivious which (I must admit) makes the series hilariously funny.
@Catbattle: "the hair shorter, the headband and cloak both unfamiliar to Sara's design"
Maybe in the light novel, but in the anime the heroine has a pretty long hair. And you're wrong about the cloak, both Sara and the heroine has EXACTLY the same scarf-like cloak part around their necks (there are numerous ways to fit a cloak, but they both have the same, pretty unusual one), and you haven't mentioned the jewelry which is the most suspicious part of all.

Fair enough. And yes, the jewely felt too obvious to mention, though it's attached to her headband rather than being a standalone hairclip. What I meant by the cloak is that it is both worn a lot looser than Sara's, has a different color, and has addition color blocks of detail on the shoulders, all unfamiliar to Sara's cloak. Her hair is also not just shorter, but also styled differently, without the front "wisps" that Sara has.
Though, considering the series takes place in a video game, it honestly wouldn't shock me if the designer looked up "free use fantasy mage girl" and changed it up a bit.
Take care,
Cat.
