I have ideas running through my head and can't make up my mind. I want to give Redshrike something to animate and I have no idea what to do! Please give me your feedback and any ideas on what you want to see next:
Please share your thoughts in this thread. I really want to know what would be helpful for any current projects, especially if you're wishing for something that doesn't exist.
Side note: The wolf animation I had made was for my game but also because makrohn said he could use it.
We're starting work on a Goblin now. Feel free to suggest any new or different ideas in this thread. This discussion was not actually dead, just sleeping quietly for a little bit. It will continue to go through phases of inactivity at times but will still be used to unveil new updates and content releases before they hit my OGA profile. Thanks everyone for showing interest in LPC.
Redshrike was kind enough to give me an update and some previews. Here are some preview goblin animations!
goblinwalk.gif 3.1 Kb [14 download(s)]
goblinfronstab2.gif 3.1 Kb [11 download(s)]
More prospective goblin animations for previewing. Redshrike, your stuff looks great.
goblin-back-walk.gif 2.8 Kb [10 download(s)]
goblinbackstab2.gif 2.3 Kb [8 download(s)]
goblin-side-stab.gif 2.2 Kb [11 download(s)]
Yet even more goblin animations! Redshrike is tearing it up, he's making this stuff look easy! We all know animation work a long and difficult at best so I want to extend my gratitude to him for working so long and hard on this sprite, it's looking great.
goblin-side-animation-3.gif 2.6 Kb [11 download(s)]
Ogg those look great they can even be used in a sidescroller game.
Thanks Mumu, that's part of the intention. LPC animations have the right look about them to be useful in side-scroll games so they really serve 2 different genras, not just RPG games. One of the many reasons I settled on LPC style artwork was because it's useful in so many situations.
im a little late but the spider is great. it sorta looks like a black widow only missing the red hourglass on its back.
Thanks. the hourglass , alas, is on the black widow's belly rather than its back. some do show a spot pattern on the back which is somewhat mimiced here.
I should have checked reference. because some do have a red strip along their back I just assumed that was the hourglass people speak of. I read the wiki and thankfully they are not around here.
Goblin is complete (for now):

More gear to follow including a shield, helmet, maybe more pieces. If something is desirable please voice it here so the shrike can see it!
This is still a community input point for LPC stuff being made. If you have suggestions, requests, comments, etc. here is a great place to say them.
Hey Redshrike, we might need to add this sprite to the list as the next enemy to finish spriting:
http://opengameart.org/content/1-hour-lpc-enemy
This is a pretty decent demon bat but only has the basic movement frames. Maybe we should add an attack of some kind (magical in nature of course) and a death animation. Just a thought.
all these sprites would make a good game like 100 rogues.
The idea is to make enough animations that LPC content can be used for any generic RPG (within reason). From my impressions of how many monsters it takes to build a small game, I would estimate we (as a community of game developers) should probably have at least 30 base enemy sprites that can be re-colored and re-tooled to meet the needs of any specific game. We're not there yet but with each addition it gets closer to being universally useful. I will continue to have enemy sprites animated for some time. My goal is to build my own RPG eventually but that has to wait until I have more free time.
In my case this would probably be enough for me because most of my "enemies" are actually just human characters and some wild animals/beasts. Eventually if I have enough extra funds I'll probably commission a few monster sprites as well, but I can't afford to do that just yet. I'll definitely use some of these Goblin sprites, though, and the other monster sprites created even though I never had plans for them before, because they're just too awesome not to use. ^^
There are only two main fantasy creatures I have already planned for which I'd be needing eventually: Giant Eagles and Drakes, although the drakes I have don't have wings on the back but are closer to wyverns. These would have been tamed as mounts, but some would be wild and be fought as enemies. Eventually I'll have concepts drawn up of my changes; neither of them would look like traditional ones. I'd commission these myself anyway.
Other than these two, I just have average animals, so I can adapt a number of monster sprites into fantasy animals/humanoid sub-races even though I didn't have plans for them before.
Either way, I won't be able to really get started on anything for at least a month at this rate. Making a full-fledged RPG is a huge goal of mine, though, and I already have the gameplay structure lined up in concept pages plus the cast of characters and story, I just need to tweak some things and actually find time to develop it. ^^

@Malifer - is this a game ? 100 rogues ? If yes, link please.
@William.ThomsonJ - thank you for adding to the kitty of OGA. I was looking at your profile and blog page and wasn't able to figure out about the game.
I did see your blog post about Haxe and also remembered you had shared something about it on OGA as well. It would be nice if any discussion about the game is featured/linked on your OGA profile as well.
GNU/Linux users won't be able to profit by your work but still thanks. Haxe though is available for debian.

Till l8er.
Hey shirish, always happy to add something to OGA. I haven't made significant progress toward anything besides making sprites and a couple concept arts. Real life (full-time work, full-time school, and wife+2 boys) has me tied down until the end of December. I'm not actively developing anything. Once I'm done with my degree I'll have a lot more free time.
Unfortunately, I haven't updated the blog since I started it. I was going to write a tutorial on making an infinite runner in HaXe but never finished typing it out. I finished the game for the PDJ but not the tutorial. At some point I'll finish writing the tutorial and post it.
Regarding GNU/Linux users: Everything on my profile is freely usable under CC and GPL, why shouldn't someone be able to use any of it for profit on any platform? I don't mind someone else making profit from my donations as long as proper credit is given.

The sprites look like they could make a game similar to this. Sorry Wlliam.Thompsonj for getting a little off topic.
