Update: The link to the kickstarter campaign was broken. I fixed it.
I just want to draw everyone's attention to the Rythos RPG Builder kickstarter campaign. The description, from the campaign itself:
Rhythos RPG Builder is a free and open source game editor inspired by RPG Maker, and based off of Rhythos Arcade BETA, an action/rhythm battle game I released at the end of April that can be played here: http://fancyfishgames.com/rhythos/ or on newgrounds here: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/616768 . My goal is to create a full-featured, easy to use editor that can customize and create full RPGs on top of the Rhythos battle engine and export games to a variety of platforms, such as Flash, HTML5, Native Executables (PC, Mac, Linux) and potentially many more. Rhythos is being designed with extendability in mind, so it will be easy for the community to improve the editor, allowing it to evolve along with it's user base. It will be accessible for those who want to start their game development career, but also flexible enough for experienced game developers to take advantage of.
Astute observers will notice that they're making use of the LPC sprites and tiles. :)
At any rate, it looks like an awesome project, so I encourage you to stop by and give them your support!
Peace,
Bart

Also, they're giving away copies of Defender's Quest to the first 200 people to donate $12, if that provides any extra incentive.
Cool. Looks like a fun game.
The engine will now support 16x16 and 64x64 tiles as well as the original 32x32! This means more of the tiles you find here on OGA will be usable. Most RPG making software only supports 32x32.
Finally, an open source one that actually looks good. I currently use RPG Maker but it has many annoyances (hard to debug Ruby (and with a lot of classes missing), not allowed to modify the editor, 640 max resolution, etc.). But I do hope that Rythos will get commercial quality graphics as well.
Right now the plan is to use the LPC art and use funding to expand on it. Would that be high enough quality or were you thinking of something else?
LPC is pretty high quality but, for me personally, it's not high enough/wrong style. I'm used to a different style so perhaps it's just that. But I'm sure that it is just fine for many games and people, especially for the free ones. Its just that I don't see myself using them.
I've been thinking seriously about working on my highly detailed set again. http://sharmclucas.deviantart.com/art/Detailed-RPG-forest-mockup-336635256 I haven't decided if I want it free or not but I'm wondering if that's more of the style you'd want.
Yap that's (a whole lot) more like it. But it's hard to tell without BGS/BGM and no animations (animated water or such). But that looks good.
