I've had in mind to do a series of low-spec sci-fi military vehicles for some time.
They'll be licensed under GPL2+ and CC-BY-SA.
This afternoon I've pushed out a basic mesh for an open top LUV.
Not sure about the poly budget though, it's currently at about 250 tris which seems a bit high (however with its open construction it will be one of the more poly-heavy in its class).
I'd like to aim for a poly budget somewhere along the lines of C&C Generals and other RTSs of that era. I haven't been able to find any data on this after a quick search so anybody know what I should be aiming for poly-budget-wise?

looks pretty good. i didnt thought it would end up as a pixel art.
i like how the wheels turned out. when i look at the untextured model they dont even look round but when evetything is textured up it looks great.
Acorn: The wheels aren't very round, they are just hexagonal prisms with one end twisted to enhance the silhouette.
Added a hard-top variant of the LUV and started work on the HMV (texture is messed because it's modified from the LUV).

You shouldnt, If I had that talent, I would build myself an army of 3D pixel art (or voxel art).

Its getting better and better. I have noticed the turret in the third vehicle, it would be nice to have a similar mounted machine gun option for the first one.
There is actually an MG on the open-top LUV, just the render is too small to see it properly.
I intend to make these somewhat modular with interchangable weapons, wheels/mattracks, turrets on armour, rotors on choppers (maybe also tail assemby to match the rotor assembly, not much point in a tail rotor on a coax chopper), rotors/jets/ducted fans on tilt-engine craft, etc.

I think it would be better if you just expanded the vehicules variety before going modular. Im really liking your style here. Some gunboats after this would be a good addition.
@surt: Now I noticed something on top of first vehicle. Modular parts would be amazing. I wish I had more time.

Dude looks awesome, and texture on plane looks ok as well. I hope this will end up as a complete strategy kit ;)
