Excellent article, good points. One comment on the topic: before turning an artist work down as is sometimes necessary to do try to give him/her constructive criticism. It really takes time to grow into a project, especially one in an early stage of development when the art style is still not totally fixed.
I think i will add a couple of things and then m.b. take part in this weekly challenge. Should i post it somewhere else?

All tiles have been made in blender+gimp. Cracks were just rendered this way. I am glad you like it.
