Hi Xapantu,
The leaves and smaller branches are modelled in a separate .blend file (which I've also uploaded), and then rendered out to a .png file. I then create a simple geometry which has the pre-rendered branch as a texture. This geometry is then replicated many times around the tree to build the canopy.

I've added two new "additional previews" to show this. The first shows a single instance of the simple geometry, while the second show the actual pre-rendered tree branch.

Thanks qubodup, I'm glad you like it. I didn't quite achieve the look I was going for (I don't think I clustered the leaves quite right), but hopefully I'll get better with practice. ;)

It was all modelled by hand in blender (with a little pre-processing of the bark texture in gimp), with the help of this video tutorial (from the "YoFrankie" DVD I believe):

I also had help from this tutorial (Not sure who to credit this to) for making the bark texture:

> Each Monday I will announce the theme.  Usually it's a word or phrase.

> The deadline is by the end of the day Friday (your time).

Would it not be better to set a standard time?  If you announce the word on your Monday (Do you live in the US?), and depending on the time of day you announce it, that would give those of us furthur east almost a whole day less.

I'm resonably sure that a CC lincence (and most any licence) applies only to the work you put that licence on.  Therefore, if they make changes to your model, they must release the changes they make under the SA licence, but they can freely include other models of any licence in their project.

The individual pieces of art are very self contained, which is why this is the case, in contrast to code which has to link to every piece of the code one way or the other.

That's a very nice model, but I thought you should know that if you don't want your model used in commercial (paid for) games, you've used the wrong licence.

CC-BY-SA 3.0 ( http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ )
This is the licence your using, which allows commercial use, so long as any modifications to your work are also released under the same licence. What I think you actually want is:

CC-BY-NC-SA ( http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/ )
This licence is the same as the above, but it forbids the sale of software with your artwork in it. Unfortunately, you don't have the option to submit work to opengameart.org with this licence. I recommend you contact the site owner to work something out.

Hi Rob,
Very nice model, it looks very cool. The only thing is, it's a bit hard to see in your preview image. Maybe it would be worthwhile rendering another with a stronger light source?
