A 2 month after status update :P

My pixel artist is going slower than i expected, so it's advancing just really slowly.

On the other side since on Sep 26 Microsoft was doing this Apptivate competition/hackaton thing I decided to make a puzzle game from the "same series"

http://apptivate.ms/apps/1221/twisted-potions This one probably wont be open sourced tho, (not completely sure, i may release the game source code tho).

Thanks, about unity it's good and terrible.

Bad news first, the web client thing is slower than i thought, or more correctly, does weird things on 2d (you can try the 3d demo i made a while ago and you'll see it goes smoothly), and i don't know why, this is an example:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/69084784/test3/test3.html You'll see that the scroll is nor c ompletely smooth.

And this is where i found it initially

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/69084784/foney/pixeltalk/pixeltalk.html

And this is the unity answers question i made about it without much luck.

http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/309340/stuttering-web-player.html

For 3d stuff works smoothly tho (wasd to move mouse+right click to adjust camera)

About the platform itself depends, it's more suited for 3d stuff (but works fine on 2d if you know what to do) and the editor and it's component based system are pretty cool for realtime debugging and editing of assets but if you're not careful it can get pretty messy.

On compiling it depends. The wii, xbox, ps3 licenses are quite expensive (like 80k per title and platform i think), so it gets reduced to windows/linux(soon)/osx and android/ios.

My experiences with those:

Android/Win/mac:

Hit a button and bam it runs.

iOS, it creates an xcode project that you need to compile, so at least for compiling you have to deal with xcode

Oh, hope Jimmy doesn't mind me hijacking his post :P

Actually that character is for a Phantasy Star online based platformer style chatbox (the one in there was a Ramar), sprites will contain walking and standing stances.

But i'm also building an open game called twisted potions, that will share almost all the graphics and code (except the network part and the pso characters because of possible copyright troubles)

http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/twisted-potions-double-trouble-an-lpci...

Atm my artist doesn't have the pso chars completed (missing 6 walking class sprites).

About the background etc they're mostly based lpc and browserquest sprites with some edits. I'll upload them once i get the opportunity to finish the first level on the game

There's something that bothers me, not sure how i haven't realised earlier, since there's no close background the character/enemies don't feel like they're moving on the map but kinda giving a treadmill effect.

The main character looks good tho

I hope it's allowed but.

They're in .ai format so you'll need illustrator or something compatible to export them

Fog, you should be able to do it with particles, dig a bit on the death effect you have.

Since you're going particles ahoy, and you want to keep it simple what about, a smoky background, and you make it change depending the scene? You could compliment it with some simple shapes. maybe mixed with some simple backgrounds, for example (old screenshot from a project of mine, but illustrative enough) which is a few palm silouethes mixed with some quick drawn mountains and a tower/castle one.

Are you planning some kind of background? Even if it is a bit dreamy/psycodelic

Looks pretty good, had some performance issues (when pressing multiple buttons + levelscrolling) but looks quite good

Btw, i recall (as i have it downloaded somewhere) that there is a spinning coin on OGA that perspective wise looks even better on platformers.
