(He wanted his art to be used only in not commercial products, if you use his art and license it cc-by, you would allow everybody to use his art (which is in included in your product) in a commercial product, what obviously is not what he wanted).
Yes, glass is just painted. Blending in 3D isn't that easy, so I decided to just draw the glass. I can give you the source image of the texture if you want to edit it, but it's a .pdn file so you will need Paint.NET to edit it.
