Thanks for the additional information. I don't mean to be a bother, but could you please remove the woman then? The low res and edtis don't remove the copyright issue with using it, and we want to be sure that all the assets here are completely unencumbered license-wise.
It looks like you've incorporated some photo resources here. Is there any way you could reference those as well? It's important that these kinds of sources be tracked to make sure that they're properly licensed.
You haven't given nearly enough information to fulfill a request like this. No clarity on style, resolution, not even medium. And comments like "decent to excellent quality" aren't going to win you a lot of points if you aren't putting money on the table. It's fine to ask for free work but you'd better be willing to go the extra mile in a) being clear on exactly what you need, b) saying why an artist should take his or her time to fill that need, and c) being courteous because in the end you're asking for free stuff.
I like assets, and I think they'll be really usable. It would probably be helpful to devs to be a bit more specific about how you want to be credited, though--it's a lot easier for them if they don't have to guess.
that's a pretty standard type of story that gets told by graphics designers in one form or another. it might be difficult to track down that specific instance.
There are quite a few options in the archives; I have them collected together with platformer tiles here: http://opengameart.org/content/platformersidescroller-tiles-and-backgrounds Have you tried one of Bevouliin's backgrounds? They might match the sort of cartoony aesthetic you have going on there. If you want to do background tiles it's possible, you just have to make them darker, lower contrast and generally less attention-grabbing than the ones the player is actually going to interact with. Things like killing highlights goes a long way towards that.
Also, generally speaking I think you'd be better of with a smoother sky gradient than with the large distinct colors you have now. Perhaps a bit of an odd thing for a pixel artist to say, but smoothness usually pays off well in that context, and it shouldnt' clash with your existing tiles.
Dang! I'm really sorry man, I promise I didn't mean to offend you or drive you away. I have moderator abilities but I only approve accounts and delete spam and double posts--I don't represent the site or the community. When it comes to those things, I really am "just some guy" with an opinion. If you disagree with me that's perfectly fine around here, and you're in good company too.
By the way, I was not intending to denigrate copyleft or other more restrictive licenses--while I don't tend to use them myself it's more rooted in license practicalities than any opposition to the philosophy. I wouldn't be here if I didn't like free software. And if you stick around, you'll find that there is a large group of people here who exclusively work with CC-By-SA or other copyleft licenses. You will also find that we like to talk about licensing and its implications from time to time--we're here in part because we are interested in that stuff. Not everyone is going to agree, but people here are also generally interested in hearing different perspectives.
Anyway, again I am sorry about that. I didn't mean for your introduction to the community to be an argument about licensing, and I should have been more considerate of that.

I reccomend that, if you're using pixel art graphics, don't blur them.
Yeah, the LPC and 16x16 assets were both OGA-backed projects, but independent of one another.

Your account is now approved. I have no idea how it went so long without being approved tbh. Sorry about that.
