Huh? My file-roller opens 7-zip with no probem with a gui.

From the screenshot you have posted it seems like you are still on Blender version 2.49.
Get the new Beta if you want to get into rigging, quite a few things concerning that have changed, and you don't want to learn outdated stuff right?
I am currently trying to update my old humanoid rig to a really cool blender 2.5 version, but I am also quite a newb when it comes to rigging.

Hmm what about flattr integration:

http://flattr.com/

Might even be also cool for individual assets, but then linking the flattr button back to the original author (e.g. make an option when submitting art if the flattr button should be displayed)

In fact I have been seriously thinking about making a free assets pack for either:

http://forum.vcmi.eu/portal.php (Opensource Homm3 engine)

or

http://sourceforge.net/projects/fheroes2/ (Opensource Homm2 engine)

Quite nice terrain tiles are available on this site, and units etc could be taken from Battle of Wesnoth ;) (Sadly the terrain tiles from Weshnoth do not work, since they are 6 sided, while the homm engines use 4 sided ones).

However both are not all that playable yet (Fheroes2 is close to it though), and I really lack the time to do something like that single handed.

I would be willing to help out with it if you want to do it though :p

Would be for sure a nice addition to the FOSS games available.

Yep the orange one looks really cool!

It's actually horrible ;) Full of tris which make it hard to do a proper high polygon mesh for a normalmap out of it.

About the contest... na I don't think it really fits the theme. But what ever ;)

Yes maybe a developer blog part, for interested artists would be nice. I guess I would not use it, but why not?

Oh and what about a mini tutorial section? Could be a funny contest also, e.g. make a short tutorial about some specific part of game art creation.

But maybe that would also bloat the site too much... staying on focus is not a bad thing at all ;)

Looks rather cool ;)

The news/blog could be a relatively small headline part above the art submissions, which could be extended by clicking on it.
