Per the subject: if I recolor an asset that has this license, am I required to redistribute it?
Or do I just have to use the same license if I choose to redistribute it?

You aren't required to distribute it, but if you do distribute it in any form: on a website, in a tabletop game, over the phone (how?!), etc... it has to be licensed CC-BY-SA and given attribution.

just a nota buena, this is truism for /ALL/ licenses. No licenses can compell you to distribute something, rather they can only terms on how you can distribute it if you chose to do so.
