Hello,
I have the feeling that OGA is slow in browsing but am not sure how...
http://sharecg.com and http://deviantart.org take 1-2 seconds for opening a new page, OGA takes 4-5.
I was told "Well, Drupal can be made faster by using the CSS/JS optimisation." and "If you have multiple CSS or JS files, it groups them into single file." "it's built-in". is it activated?
Does anyone else experience slow browsing? I first it was the transparent elements, but I'm not sure any more.
Thanks
PS: http://majic.rs/node/12 someone who had drupal slowness problems and how he fixed it apparenlty.
They are about the same for me. Loading times at deviantart.com tend to vary wildly for me though. Optimization wouldn't hurt.
Edit: I use FlashBlock, so I avoid loading the audio previews.
Do you mean loading a page is slow, or interacting with an already loaded page is slow (aka "laggy")?
I have the first one: 4-5 seconds load time, but once loaded, there is no problem.
If this is the issue, I really think it has nothing to do with CSS/JS as they are client-side, I rather think it is either the server not having enough CPU to handle all the php/whatever processing or not having enough upload and sending data slowly.
To me it looks like it is the server's CPU, as during the first 3 of those 4-5 seconds, my browser says "waiting for opengameart.org" and only the last second it says "transferring data..."
I'm a game programmer, just do a little web development though, thus I might be totally wrong!
Uploaded a new item today ( https://opengameart.org/content/fps-announcer-voice ). when pressing submit button, it took about 40 seconds to finish.
Loading https://opengameart.org/ takes 6 seconds.
In incognito mode, main page loads in 3 seconds and keeps spinning the load icon for 3 more seconds.
In incognito mode, individual asset pages load quickly, in non-incognito, they take a lot longer.
I guess I have to clear cookies and such.
Devs are working on an updated OGA site. But progress is slow as I think Botanic (if I remember correctly) is the only person working on it.
It differs by time of day.
Sometimes it's fast, sometimes it takes a minute.
I discoeverd the website about 40 min ago, and i came to the forum to say the exact same thing, actually i am going to make a new post anyway. I think, it's important.
For me, the website is also recognizably slower than other websites.
I just saw this post is TEN yeaaars old. I don't think they will ever improve it... ohh
Maybe it's because of money. Better than nothing
@Power it looks like only one person is working on an entire site rehaul, as of August last year. Speaking as someone with web development experience, revamping so many features is a lot for one person, esp if they have other things going on in life as most people do.
edit: as of may-ish last year, but the github repository hasn't seen a lot of updates in a while.
I understand. I think it's still better to have the website in a slow state than nothing, so if you are the admin and reading this lines, no biggie and thank you.
Yep, Mars is correct. Know that I am the admin and I am reading this. Your concerns are not falling on deaf ears. Unfortunately the speed knob is already turned up to 11, but the site framework is basically steampunk. We're building a cyberpunk version, but building a new site and making it compatible with over 10 years of legacy is an Epic, in every sense of the word. Anyone with Drupal experience who wants to help, raise your hand. :)
EDIT: althought the original post is over 10 years old, the speed issue at the time had since been resolved shortly after the post. The new speed issue is a recent development. It hasn't been slow for 10 years. Regardless, we're working on the new issue as well. :)

it seems a bit better this morning. Any word on what the (most recent) issue was and if anything was done to address it?
https://withthelove.itch.io/
Most recent issue: cross-site scripting defense having a hard time keeping up.
Done to address it: botanic killed a bunch of dead/bot connections and adjusted the XSS settings.
