Just a quick note for game devs. If you use someone's art, don't be afraid to leave a comment on that art with a link back to your game. It's free advertising for you, and artists who post here are always happy to know that their work is being used. I know people can be a little hesitant sometimes to link to their own projects, but in this case we don't consider it to be spam. :)

Not to mention the fact that you can actually add more specific stuff for your uploads (as an artist) since I rather make "free" usable (and popular) art rather then just dump a bunch of stuff here ...
Thank you for the heads up.
I have taken advantage of the opportunity and I have included opengameart.org in the credits screen of my game
I'm gonna have some fun browsing this website for content for future games
Will do
100% will do. I will always give credit where credit is due :)
Cool!
I will from now on. :)
What about when it comes to trying to credit people for the game? What if I ended up downloading something from Open Game Art and its not properly labled so I end up forgetting who originally uploaded it? Would it be okay to just credit Open Game Art and their users?
I would still make as many efforts as I'd be able to credit people and let them know if any of their assets have been used in a project of mine, but its just a what if scenario. Because particularly for sound effects I download and stock up on sound effects from many different & sometimes random websites so its difficult to remember all the users or sites to be credited especially if the audio files aren't labled enough for me to know who should be credited.
"Would it be okay to just credit Open Game Art and their users?"
In many cases, no. If the work is licensed CC-By or CC-By-SA, it is a legal requirement that you give credit as specified by the author. It really is your responsibility as a dev to keep records as you go. If you got it off of OGA, it really shouldn't take too long to find it again. The archive isn't really all that large. If it's off random sites, keeping correct records applies double. You're going to likely be running into issues of self-written or inconsistent licensing, not to mention people uploading files that aren't theirs with erroneous permissions they aren't legally allowed to give (see, for instance, almost all of Tindeck). You really do need to keep that all straight.
Sorry, I know that that isn't the most favorable answer, but them's the breaks.
If you're also worried about "forgetting" where you got something on OGA, add it to a collection. Bam. Instant list of assets for you to go back, reference, and ensure that you have proper attribution. People deserve to be credited for their awesome work.

For my game "The Labyrinth" I used nearly 80% for graphics and sounds from open game art. So I think its only fair to give the site also credits. I added the open game art logo at the end of my credits. It's all such a great work.
Here is the link to the game: http://www.eastforge.de/games/TheLabyrinth.exe
