Over the next several weeks, OGA will be running a 3D modeling contest. We'll be asking that people submit Sci-Fi props (guns, crates, medkits, devices, etc) in the 3D format of their choice.
Here are the rules, in brief:
We will be giving away three Amazon gift cards as prizes, in the values of $75, $50, and $25 for the first three places. Google Wave invites will be available for the first four places, for those who are interested.

Why Blender format? There are other modelers too, you know. You would get more entries without this restriction.
It does seem a bit arbitrary, at that. I'll remove the restriction.
What about images used to create a new UV map, such as multiple image sources from cgtextures into one UV?
Either way, I'm game, pun intended, I was looking to join Wave anyway. Awesome.
One, you must transform the images in some way so that they're your own work. Two, you need to make *absolutely certain* that the images you use can be licensed in the way the contest entries are required to be licensed. In practice, that will mean they'll probably need to be either CC0 or Public Domain, or you'll need direct permission from the author of the original image.
For anyone out of ideas here are some which would be useful for my game which is a sci-fi flight sim shooter (See: http://www.hardwar.org/about )
Airlock doors, buildings, flying vehicles (see this video for examples of what they should look like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9jdwUubHz0 ), monorail train, monorail track, space elevator port.
Any 3D artwork would be really useful.
Arty has recently submitted a number of excellent sci-fi concept sketches. You might consider picking one of those, if you're looking for ideas. :)

I have a few questions.
I submitted my entry and got this:
"All entries will remain hidden until the contest ends on August first. "
August of 2010?
Why are the entries hidden?
There's no mention in the rules about submitting the same model(s) the usual way via Submit/3D Art. Can I still submit it for everyone to use?
That message is wrong, thanks for reporting :).
They'll be hidden until they've been judged, in the first week of January or so. While it might not technically be a violation to publish them now, we'd prefer if you waited until then.
Have you actually told anyone you're having a competition? For example did you mention it on the deviantart or blender forums?
