$12256 / $11500
OpenGameArt.org is currently hosting a pixel art contest, which ends on August 1, 2009! We are looking for hair, faces, clothes, accessories, and other modifications to our base sprite sets. The entries don't need to be extensive, just cool. Here are the sprites you'll be working with:
By: Migel Angel Hijo de Pedro
By: Mandi Paugh
Note: These are not the full sprite sets -- they're just previews! The full sets can be found on the contest rules page.
The winner of the contest will receive US $100, with a second prize of US $50 also available. Interested? Stop by and read the rules, then submit an entry!

Hi, I just had a few questions in regard of the contest. I'm planing to enter the contest and wanted to do perhaphs a full vampire set (i.e, Hair, cloths, weapon?)and I was wondering, if I would have to split them all up and summit them seperately or could I just summit it as a whole?. Also I wanted to make sure if I can edit the base; change its shading, colors, perhaphs edit some of the frames?
I will appriciate it if you can respond asap, since I want to have time and in the case I can't edit the base I don't want to lose the time I would have spend editing it.

Hi MdNight! I haven't spoken to the other editors about this yet, so this is a preliminary response. If you hear nothing else, this is what you can go by:
As long as the sprite modifications can be overlayed, are color adjustments or minor changes, I think it's fine. To quote the contest rules: "Contest entries must be pixel art accessories or modifications for the OpenGameArt.org base sprites (linked above). This can include clothing, weapons, eyes, hair, or any other alterations or additions to the sprite bases.
So IMO, eg. new animations would be considered "additions". Changes that fit cleanly with the current base sprite should be cool too. A completely new base sprite is not (for this competition - of course we would love any contributions!). My take on it is that it's fine as long as it's obviously based on the base sprite. The only real constraint is that any changes you make should not interfere with the ability to combine the sprite with other accessories and such of the base sprite.
As for how to submit them, ideally it should be as modular as possible. So any edits that can be seperated cleanly should be (accessories etc). If you want to do this by layers or by seperating them in space is up to you. Submitting a single file is fine!
Thanks for your interest and participation :).
Just a quick clarification:
* Anything based on the base sprite(s) is fine. There are no restrictions. You can even edit the base sprite. Don't worry too much about compatibility with other modifications, as long as you have a good idea.
* Editing or adding frames to the base sprite is fine.
* Multiple modifications in one file are fine too. You can also enter the contest multiple times, but you can only win one prize total.
