- Story based (the player will discover the story while they play)
- Puzzle/Quest based
- Item based (optimizing equipment is more important than the actual game)
And the everlasting question:
- Single PC or party?
And don't forget, skills. In IVAN you can get fighting levels in whatever you can hold in the hand. Someone actually gained levels in fighting with a banana, because they forgot to change the banana back to their real weapon.
I have no idea if there is an official term. In my projects I used the term "overlays" for such, and I think in at least one professional game project it's been called "decals".
In another forum someone pointed me to the Lovecraft story yesterday. I knew that Lovecraft is a horror writer, but I thought an article about the story would be safe to read. Failure, it gave me nightmares last night :/
I've been inspired by an episode of a sci-fi series, but maybe the authors of that episode were inspired by Lovecraft, I assume his story was first.
Thanks for all the suggestions! Now I must see to actually make some monsters for the game ...
The world needs a good carmageddon remake! With deformable cars and all the related effects.
You can develop an RPG several ways ...
- Story based (the player will discover the story while they play)
- Puzzle/Quest based
- Item based (optimizing equipment is more important than the actual game)
And the everlasting question:
- Single PC or party?

Good luck :)
A game made in two weeks? Amazing. Even my breakout clone took longer. I sometimes wonder what I do wrong, that my projects take so long :/
Very nice!
"chromatovore / chromatophage"
Sounds terrifying. I'll reserve that for the final levels. Thanks for the suggestion!
I wonder if it's a good idea to show the AI's thinking ... in this creenshot there are three states shown "need water", "need a break", "I'm sleeping"
What do you think? Better with or without thinking bubbles?
In the last release, map creation could crash if an Imp plans to set up its lair inside a well. I had not thought of this special case.
If I ever get to design indoor locations in my new project, this will make a great wall decoration. Thanks for sharing this for free :)
