So you got a very basic point of law wrong, @claudeb, come back here when you have studied law for years, until then perhaps spare us opinion from the laity.

Reminds me of the time I've been threatened by an actual, practicing lawyer who actually had a pretty solid claim for a change. Turns out, it wasn't solid enough for a lawsuit. Even a practicing lawyer can get this stuff wrong. Have you studied law? Because my bet is that you're just trying to frighten people with big words.

Well, two can play this game. Did you know that threatening people is a crime? It only takes a few complaints to trigger a police investigation. And every new threat you utter here is one more piece of evidence against you. Evidence that, rest assured, the mods will be all too happy to preserve for the authorities.

I'm no frail little kid in a schoolyard. Think better.

This is probably just MikeeUSA on another name anyway.

I was going to ask why this person is so keen to defend someone who was banned. So much for being rethorical.

Or keep him around for our amusement if you want.

No no, I'll stop feeding the troll. Sorry, it's just that I have a problem with threats and react very badly to them. Also, I didn't want to let it pass. Speaking up for OGA is the least I can do.

There is no business relationship where no contract has been signed. There is no obligation for OGA to even provide a platform for such relationships. And I'm pretty sure being informed of possible legal action means just that, and has no legal weight.

Your escalating threats achieve nothing except paint you in an increasingly worse light. Are you sure it's wise to continue?

Tell me again how blocking someone on a discussion forum for breaking the rules of that forum is in any way "libel". Tell me again how the use of a FREE service, WITHOUT signing a contract, was in any way supposed to guarantee wages and opportunities. Your threats don't hold water, and you're digging yourself deeper with every post.

(Incidentally, now we know why every single free software license out there, with the exception of two or three joke licenses, have a clause saying in essence, "you don't get to sue the author of this software for any reason". Oh well.)

Dear everyone who's quick to threated lawsuits: kindly remember that you're not in a public space here. You're in somebody's backyard -- on private property -- and the hosts have every right to shut you up, or kick you out if you won't comply. You can then exercise your freedom of speech (which remains intact) somewhere else.

Learn what those three words mean, already.

P.S. Never mind that by threatening a lawsuit you've just forfeited any amount of sympathy people might have shown you. Enjoy.

Nice work making the game look and feel like a Speccy title without actually making it for the Speccy (like I did with a couple of mine). Even the responsiveness feels appropriate for the platform, if not so much for a modern game. But... only one life, especially for such a punishing game? That's a bit tight.

@Duion: What are you talking about? itch.io has a license selector for all projects (even dual, distinct for code and art!) and displays those licenses prominently. Plenty of people take advantage of it, too. You also don't need an account even to buy, and a lot of stuff there costs nothing.

That said, good point about IRC. I know at least one online community that doesn't need much more than that. But weren't we also supposed to have one?

@farrer: Even if the OGA software was fully open source, if OGA itself breaks down from neglect and stops working then it's all over for the community, most likely. Unless we all migrate somewhere else before that happens, and then it doesn't matter what software runs the new place. It's the people who make OGA, and the art they submit, not the code.

I hope it doesn't come to that quite so soon. Already many of us are on itch.io, sharing the same assets with the world, under the same licenses. But we don't keep in touch the same way over there. And I'm sure many people haven't made the jump yet, nor will they. Once OGA goes away (and sadly it's just a matter of time), things will never be the same again.

Early on, they tried to make Creative Commons licenses that didn't require attribution. Nobody wanted to use those versions. Nobody. So they simply gave up on maintaining yet another set.

Hi there! You can change any art you get from OGA, but you have to offer the modified version under the same license, if the license is CC-BY-SA or (L)GPL. Changing an image doesn't break the rules. Failing to share your changes with other people would break the rules.

In the way of game engines / authoring tools there's always Twine, Ren'Py and Inform 7 (the latter with some caveats). Also anything that runs in a web browser, though those are usually rather specialized, such as PuzzleScript. And I'm not sure it counts, but sdlBasic is a very nice runtime that comes as a single, small executable file and can run (2D) games with all the bells and whistles written in a simple scripting language.
