@kagerato no worries matey, I read it first thing this morning and i was surprised by the reaction, my intentions was to try and be helpful, and not really to lecture anyone, and I can see you are very passionate about these matters, so again I apologise if I struck a nerve, and sorry if it came across as lecturing.

what I was really trying to say was to any newbie developers thinking of creating a game that is someone's IP is to do so with caution, as there maybe some consequences down the line, maybe not now, but maybe later.(laws and legal system could change at anytime)

think when I wrote it I was going through the motions of my experiance, and it was quite scary so maybe that's why it may of came across the way it did.

We are all going to have an opinion on this as we may have experienced something or been advised otherwise whether it good or bad, and I think Mold is quite right, "no one here is right or wrong." .

Thanks.

Wow, there was no need to be so shitty about it,I only put that on here to share what I thought might help, clearly it doesn't, and maybe your right more about these issues than me, certainly sounds like it from what I've read. I apologise if anyone has read this and I have somewhat discouraged them. Il keep my opinions to myself in future. perhaps delete the thread.

thanks.

I think if you download something here under a particular license then you have to agree to that license, if the file has a different license elsewhere then it is usually picked up and removed for licensing issues, however the odd one may slip the net. As long as you can prove the file you use is accompanied by the license and you adhere to the license you haven't done anything wrong really, however the author of the file, or user that submitted the file in the first place may have committed an licensing offence, so it should be taken up with them for legalities.

Example: if you have 2 of the same artwork, one is public domain and one is protected.

you download the public domain and use, that's fine, hey it's public domain right?, but someone has recognised that it's there work and is protected, so they jump up and down on you, you say hey but I got this here with this license, they say ok, we must investigate this, so you have to take down you project whilst we find out who uploaded the original artwork. Then they should be liable really I think, so you have to find something else to use, complete bummer. Not sure what happens though if the uploader Cannot be found, long as you can prove the license you got with the file.

thats my understanding anyway, anyone feel free to correct my opinion.:)

I use gamemaker, and do my own art, and I'm amateur in both, and boomshaka is quite right, it's not an easy feat to try and do both, split your time, as both can take a lot of it, I do a lot of reading of tutorials in the evening, and practice in the day when I have the time, you will not be perfect at either, it will take years. I've been using gamemaker for 4 years now and I still haven't released anything. Be happy with what you have done, it's very much a progression, use your artwork that you create as placeholders to begin with and then you can smarten them up later.:)

Ok cool, thanks for your response, thinking about it my work is probly more "programmer art" right now than pixel. :)

I've used weekly, and wix and I can tell you that after uploading 100 + images it lagged very badly, kept timing out and crashing, not to mention having to wait like 10 minutes for it just to load the website builder, which is why I don't use any of them anymore, do they even give you a download option?

Just a thought, I'm not sure how much time is needed or money lost taking the time to do any necessary update and changes, perhaps someone could come to a figure, then maybe All of us that use OGA could host an event to raise that figure, a game jam maybe or something else relevant to OGA and its users. I know patreon would be the answer to hit that target and have someone fulltime, but maybe something like this every now again may help.

however I would urge all of us to donate $1 to the patreon campaign, there are many of us here that benefit hugely from this site, and I don't think $1 is to much to ask to keep this great site running and make it better for the future, we should hit the target no problem.

if you click the 'latest art' text it will show all artwork that has been submitted recently up to 20 pieces being shown, plus all the filters if required, so personally I don't think it needs changing, maybe knowing that the text is clickable might be useful.

not sure about the limitations on submissions though, taking up all the featured space on one persons work would seem a bit greedy, so perhaps maybe consider other users when posting,on the other hand if an artist only plans on using the site once a month or can only use it once a month and has lots of work to share, maybe it's more productive for them to do it all at once. I don't think it happens that often, and when it does perhaps it's just unlucky for those that have posted, then saying that there are a lot of users here posting new work so the chances are your work won't feature on there for that long anyway.

maybe a timer? So everyone gets a period of time on the front page and then it moves on to the newest work, think that will just cause clogs thou.

just my opinion :)

When you click on latest art link, it will bring up all art that has been submitted recently.:) I think in the profile you can select what you want on the home page when you sign in, so if you want to not see something just uncheck it, that may leave more room for featured art, I haven't checked it myself but that may work maybe?
