I enjoy good gameplay, and I enjoy good story, but generally attempts to do both at once end up doing neither that well, or at best one well, and the other an annoying diversion from the good part. I think it's important to choose which one you want to focus on, and construct the experience around that. There's a good reason why designations like "interactive fiction" and "visual novel" have cropped up that distance themselves from the "game" concept.
I could ramble on about this, but that's the short version.
Not bad. If you're going to use the tree sprites for multiple objects, though, you might want to do a horizontal mirror on the duplicate ones so they don't look quite the same in-game.
I like the bolder colors in this edit.
Sounds like it could be a "scanning" or "access failure" noise for a sci-fi computer.
Sweet animation!

Eh, feel free to use your judgement, those sprites were largely not made with being any specific stand-in in mind. My suggestions:
- I think the trees, chains, blood pool, shield and boots would have obvious equivalents.
- The parchment and the spellbook could go with the "spell casting" weapons.
- The sword could be a stand-in for the axe if you wanted it to be.
- The ankh could be a life boost or invulnerability.
- I think there was a beer mug that you could use mine for, too.
Maybe some of these would be useful to you:

Seems like it would be perfect for the map view of a galactic conquest themed 4X game.
This is cool. The retro-ness might go well with something like a roguelike.

This seems to be the case. Is there a way to "unsubscribe" from something I commented in the past?
