eSpeak: http://ompldr.org/vNWowZw

espeak "Well it is so-so you see" -w espeak.wav && sox espeak.wav espeak.ogg

Festival: http://ompldr.org/vNWowag

echo "Well it is so-so you see" | text2wave -o festival.wav && sox festival.wav festival.ogg

There are different voices and changing pitch gives some amount of flexibility.

Hope this helps :) What are your plans for speech synthesis?

@wrayn3: BOFH's license is the 3-clause BSD license, which is very permissive and allows what you suggested! :) I don't know a more fitting exisiting open source game engine.

@wrayn3: My recommendation - if you are more interested in making a game than programming everything from ground up - would be to take BOFH and use its level editor to create some levels.

BOFH is BSD-licensed and contains a modern tileset that features office building stuff and weapons and characters similar to the gta1 style, but no roads or vehicles. It could be a start.

You would have to figure out how to convert the tileset to png or similar though.

I figured out how to get the graphics from BOFH and uploaded them:

http://opengameart.org/content/low-pixel-school-tileset-and-objects-etc-... is the tileset and http://opengameart.org/category/art-tags/bofh is all of them except for the logo/main screen

Hope this helps and you should tell us about your project and where it is located, if it's open source! :)

Hopefully the desired effect will take place. I'm optimistic that it will. :)

PS: Add lgpl for good measure? (not really sure)

(first post in this thread)

I want to have a grid of new items that is not divided into sections, but only shows the latest submissions and has the category in a small link below it. Like http://www.deviantart.com/

It will be easier to add more art this way and there is no "2D art is most important" stigma through positioning.

battles are Hex-field based though :) Although I don't think tiles are being used in the backgrounds.
