J'ai eu le même probleme sous Ubuntu 11.10, quand je joue à Flare je change la config de mon clavier : en anglais qwerty. Ce n'est pas une vrai solution mais ça marche.
Quand tu utilise un pouvoir dans la barre de gauche, celui-ci prend la direction de ta souris, c'est pourquoi tu as l'impression qu'il ne fonctionne que dans une seule direction. C'est bien sur plus utile quand tu peux te servir des raccourcis clavier ;-).

I had the same problem on Ubuntu 11.10, when I play to Flare, I change my keyboard settings : english qwerty. This is not a real solution, but it works.
When you use a power in the left bar, it aims at your mouse position, that's why you feel that it works in only one direction. It's definitely more usefull if you could use the keyboard shortcut ;-).
-quest log will be helpful for long quest, this is a great improvment.
-if you receive money or xp when you are speaking , these information are at the bottom on the left side and above there is the dialog box, it is not very clear/readable. Mayebe these information could appear in the dialog box.
-I've tried two characters : one pure physical, it works with potions ; the other one both physical and defense, it works with few potions, block is very powerful (maybe too much) but very immersive : block, run, block, run and hit !
May be I am completly wrong, but I don't understand why scripting language seems to be so important, Flare is an engine so people could do everything they want : add/remove effect, power, dialog, map etc... or create a complete new mod/game.
Moreover the way Flare is done make improvements/changes easy to do. So why add a scripting language to flare ? may be somebody could explain me ?

I've changed the order of the tileset : first =>tiled_collision.png then tilset_cave. It's much better, the minimap is right, but there are still incredible things.
You told me that tiled was dec and tilesetdef hex, do I have to translate each number from dec to hex ?
in the .tmx is the layer order important ?

Few remarks/feedback:
