Looks good (really creepy). Why not use gimp to create a small brown image, add some noise, and then blur real quick? Basic textures are easy to do, and uv-unwrapping (while tedious) is a great way to make models look better. You could keep a small collection of images you made to quickly texture objects for upload, or look through my stuff (all cc0 with textures).

There is another video there (along with a zip file that has the logic setup, also hosted here, like I sad at the end of the second video). I did not necessarily mean it is for only blender, but rather let people know that I did this in blender. This is not specifically for rendering, but the game engine and the tutorial is the video on the patreon page.

Fbx is better than obj anyway, it is my preferred alternate format.
