1. use tab to go into edit mode, ctrl+A to select all faces, hit "w" and choose "shade smooth" (or select the object, hit the space bar and type "shade smooth" and hit enter).

2. Always remove doubles.

3. basic texture 101, make an image (32x32 or bigger), make it half brown and half tan, then use noise (correlated) and blur. The top of the cap's faces should be mapped to the brown, while the bottom and stem should be mapped to the tan.

4. Take the verts from the bottom outside of the cap. increase their size a bit and drag them down a bit (if you want).

That's from looking at the image, not even downloading it. Hope you continue to improve.

I'm going to be working on a card game on https://www.thegamecrafter.com, but I'm not sure if I'll finish it. I'll be looking for 2d images on here, and uploading some of my own. I'll just concede defeat since I did not have any textures, but weneed some good contests.

I don't need dinosaur models, I find the lack of 3d updated disturbing.

Would it be too hard to allow us to setup a contest? I assume the code is all there, we just don't have access to it. Maybe setup a contest area in the forums, or people can start a contest thread, and then lock it after linking it to a voting thread. I might try this since I'm cleaning up my shop today.

Particle effects? Some game engines don't have particle emitters and particles can be small coloured planes. Unique particle emitters (like for blender) could introduce some fresh ideas. Here is a list,  but you can also categorize contests into 2d and 3d contests (3d assets are being added slowly).

Dinosaurs

Alien landscapes

Alien flora/fauna

Electronics

Shops (bonus if you can walk around them)

rubbish

currency (both real and fictional)

fruits

vegetables

misc items

Dreamscapes

Dreamscape creatures

Ye Olde Scenes

Futuristic scenes

Futuristic items

Real weapons

Fictional weapons

Dice (blender users have an advantage on d20s)

Skyboxes

Dinotopia scenes

Magical, mythical, and marvolous beasts

Noah's ark

Landscapes

Landscape object packs

Bloddy brilliant british objects

Masks

Anthropomorphic peoples

There's a start, I'm sure I can concoct more, but I have things to do.
