I think those are great points, MedicineStorm. We should definitely work on fixing the attribution problem(s) in submissions. Maybe we could make a separate topic for that---there are a few that definitely need fixing, and a few (including my own) which probably deserve a look by someone else to make sure the attributions are correct.

I also didn't realize that multiple people could collaborate on collection(s). I agree that elmerenges collection looks pretty comprehensive, maybe someone could reach out to them and ask to add some collaborators. The main issue seems to be ensuring the collection is kept up to date, even if the original collector becomes inactive (for instance, Pennomi had a collection of all the LPC assets, but they don't seem to be active anymore).

I think a repository could still be valuable for two reasons:

1) the attribution information could be standardized (e.g. in a table or standard text format, like many open source games do); this would allow the attributions to be dropped in to a project rather than being manually curated each time from the credits.txt file. It would also allow us to fix attribution information on submissions where the original author is not cooperating. I admit this is only a marginal benefit over just collecting art on OGA.

2) It could allow an additional level of curation; for instance, there are some submissions of quite different style, still tagged as "LPC;" for instance, compare this livestock submission to this one. Both fine pieces of art, but probably not belonging in the same game. Then there are some submissions which attempt to collect lots of similar/related pieces together and coerce them into a compatible style, like some of mine. Then there are those that lump a whole ton of assets together into one or a few spritesheets (in my personal opinion, these aren't terribly useful, as different games will have different requirements, and they seem to be causing some attribution problems). However, I'm not sure this type of curation is something that should happen in an "official" "OpenGameArt" repository, because there will almost certainly be differences of opinion, and it's unclear to me who would resolve them.

Perhaps, somewhat like makrohn and jrconway3's repositories for character sprites, we could standardize some system of organizing assets, but again this is an opinionated process. There could also be varying degrees of "QA" like what Eliza's been doing with the bodies. Certainly could be fun and potentially useful, but I think it will definitely be opinionated, and I'm not sure it belongs in an official-sounding location like github.com/opengameart/liberatedpixelcup .

Hey, I really like the palm tree variations! FWIW, I'm willing to license my edits to the Pixelsphere palm trees as CC0, so you can combine with Len/Moadung's trees and make your tree variations GPL v2 (though ideally we could secure CC-BY and GPL v2+ on Len/Moadung's trees... not sure if you have a way of contacting them...)

For the LPC stuff, I opted not to do shadows like that, since the lighting is closer to high noon, and they get really cumbersome for larger objects. Also the reason MedicineStorm mentioned.

Looks awesome Zabin! I love what you've done with the shores, particularly the rocks in the water---looks amazing!

For the palm trees, I wonder if a trunk more similar to the original (or even Len's tree?) would work better with your style? I know it was just a rough conversion, but similar to kichigai's suggestions about over-outlining of the internal forms of Jetrel's trees, I wonder if de-emphasizing the cartoony shape of the palm tree trunk would look better. Or you could do a hybrid with Len's trunk and PixelSphere's leaves on top. Just a thought... (BTW, I really like Len's palm tree and tried hard to make it work with the beach set, but it just had too much noise compared to the style of the LPC sets, and I found myself editing to the extent it didn't look good anymore).

What is the license going to be on the rocks/gravel? Is that just you or you and Jetrel? Also who's the author of the plants in RPGfin.png?

Looks amazing as usual, Eliza! I particularly like the double-breasted coat (yay for Victorian gentle-lady! :p). The hairstyles looks really nice too, particularly the top right and bottom left IMO.

I think ladies' clothing is a lot more complicated, which is why I haven't attempted it :p But there's at least a good start with the Sara set, which I see you're dissecting apart.

A swing animation would be great! I'm not very good at the weapon animations, which is why I didn't include one. I also tried doing cast, but it looked kind of strange since the hands sorta open up and point to the side...

Also it's both inspiring and depressing to peruse surt's CC0 scraps thread... the stuff he throws away is 1000x better than most anything I've contributed :p

Thanks so much Zabin. Your trees look really great too.

I'm working on a master collection of all high-quality trees I can find on OGA, remixed into the LPC style. I'm looking forward to trying to incorporate these trees, assuming I can do them justice and not make a total mess of the colors.

Hi Eliza,

Sounds reasonable. I'm planning to make a fork/PR against those repos to add some of those things, as well as some of my own sprites.

Also, I just released my LPC Gentleman set: https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-gentleman . I didn't use your color palette since I was so far into it when you posted it, but I might try to recolor them to fit your palette if I have time. I hope you'll release your Victorian lady set soon! :p

Looks really nice Zabin! I like how you've applied your own flair to all these different sets to make them work together. A few questions?

Do you have a license for Jetrel's tree? http://www.wesnoth.org/jetrel/rpg/huge-tree.png

Where did the tree on the middle-left in this screenshot come from? https://opengameart.org/sites/default/files/forum-attachments/3wateranim...

Where did the pine/coniferous trees in the far middle-right of your very first screenshot come from?

Eliza, do you know about the LPC universal spritesheet https://github.com/makrohn/Universal-LPC-spritesheet? I found the formal sprites in that collection (or rather jrconway3's slightly more up-to-date fork https://github.com/jrconway3/Universal-LPC-spritesheet)-everything is already broken up into separate PNGs and nicely organized. jrconway also wrote a tool to automatically recolor hair styles; I haven't used it, but might be worth looking at.

Speaking of which, I hope you'll contribute your fixes to the set back to the community somehow ideally as a pull request against one of those repositories! Otherwise, someone will have to go through all this work over again :(
